The verses about the abomination which causes desolation are translated diversely. Yet, there is a definite list of characteristics which appear uncontradictory:
- stands where it ought not
- characterized in numerous translations with personal pronoun "he"
- has alternative definition of "disgusting thing causing destruction"
- sacreligious
- has a relationship to Jerusalem

The abomination, as defined, is consistent with being a person.
The abomination is found in a "fortress" and a holy land.

Daniel 11
31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. 32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. 33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. 34 Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries. 35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.
36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. 37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. 38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. 39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.

how about 'abominable desolation'?

utter desolation. nuclear war.

LOL. I was really focusing on abomination rather than "desolation".

Nuclear war is certainly one way desolation could be achieved. I suppose nukes could be considered an abomination, perhaps sacreligious, and maybe even considered to "stand" somewhere. One could even name a nuke. That would kinda fit the personal pronoun usage in scripture. I'm just not sure that's the first conclusion I'd reach for though.

You are right to recognize the personal pronouns.

and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate

"desolatOR standing where HE ought not" properly translated

Where is this place where he ought not be?
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

WHO is this?
the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Satan physically reigns from Jerusalem, but comes for the Church and most will be deceived by his lies.

Jesus said, "

15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand) 16Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

What can we discern from this?

1. There is an abomination which can be seen that causes desolation.
2. It is referred to in Daniel.
3. The desolation is of Israel.
4. The abomination stands in the holy place.

What does Daniel say about an abomination of desolation?

Daniel 11:31And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.

32And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
33And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.
34Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries. 35And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.

And this:

Daniel 12:11And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Luke writes that the abomination of desolation is armies and so does the Psalmist:

Psalm 74

1O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
2Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
3Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
4Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
5A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.
6But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
7They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.
8They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
9We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. 10O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

Luke 21:20And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

Therefore, the abomination of desolation which Jesus spoke of, referred to in Daniel (definitely Daniel 11) is the Roman armies which surrounded Israel, standing on sacred ground, defiling the temple, setting it on fire, setting up their ensigns and desolating Israel until the time of the end.

Furthermore, there is no scripture, anywhere, that describes the antichrist as THE abomination of desolation.

Jesus makes it clear that it is the armies that surround Israel that will not leave one stone upon another until the time of the end.
Luk 19:43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
Luk 19:44And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

Luk 21:6[As for] these things which ye behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

The abomination of desolation stands where it should not be as we speak

It is the Muslin Dome of the Rock .... this edifice is an abomination to the Lord

Daniel's prophecy is about the time of Jacob's trouble .... the 70th week decreed for Israel still pending

This edifice of Mohammed's corrupted religion and related will be a focal point and used by the little horn of Daniel's visions as evidence that the religion of Islam is the correct and only one [Daniel 7:7-25; 8:9-25; 9:24-27; [the other prince that shall come]; 11:36-45: 12:7]

In the day that this edifice becomes the place and focal point where the little horn will go at the middle of the 70th week when he invades and occupies Israel, Jerusalem, and the temple mount, a believing remnant part of Israel will flee eastward into the Jordanian wilderness for the Lord's protection [Matthew 24:15-16; Revelation 11:2; 12:6; 12:14]

Yes it is, standing on the temple mount as we speak .... there is no scripture calling for the little horn to build anything on the temple mount

And it is this pagan temple that he will sit in .... the temple of His "god" who is Satan [2 Thessalonians 2:8-12; Revelation 13:1-4]

The crescent moon god of the ancient Assyrians and Babylonians called Allah by the Muslims is a ficticious "god" who does not exist, but a cover for Satan

Yes, the Dome on the Rock is the abomination of desolation standing in the Holy Spot, and Muslims are the 7th head of the beast that trampled Jerusalem underfoot for 1260 years as also prophesied. Their time is up, but now they want to rule Jerusalem again and have started the Battle of Ar Mageddon, which began on 9/11 when the Euphrates was dry.

It makes no difference when the Dome was built .... it is still there today and will be during the coming 70th week

And Paul said no such thing .... you are a replacement theologist thinking that the church of today has replaced national Israel .... not true

I can see this by your responses

If you stick to your overall view and do not want to learn the truth about the time of the end, then I cannot help you with your faulty interpretations

If you are not willing to adjust your current precepts, there is no good purpose for discussion between us

I can help you, but it appears that you are bound to your theology .... so bantering back and forth would be an exercise in futility for both of us

We know sometime before the final siege of 70 AD the early Christians left the city of Jerusalem. Did they heed the warning in Matthew 24?

A parallel study of the three Gospel accounts reveals the Abomination of Desolation.

During the time of Christ, the Jews celebrated Hanukka. He was well aware of the first occurrence of the Abomination of Desolation in the temple, when Antiochus Epiphanes set up a statue of Zeus (He had previously claimed he was Zeus) in the temple and had a pig slaughtered on the altar, during 167 BC.

John 10:22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.

Hanukkah celebrates the cleansing and rededication of the temple which occurred three years after the abomination of desolation by Antiochus in 167 BC.

Therefore, Christ was predicting a second occurrence of the Abomination of Desolation in the Olivet Discourse.

Several events could be a possible desecration of the temple during 70 AD. The Roman standards were posted at the temple site. Sacrifices were made to Titus at the temple site. Also, the behavior of the zealots within the temple itself during the siege is regarded by many as a desecration of the temple.

Mat 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)
Mat 24:16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

Mar 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

Luk 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh(near).
Luk 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

Luke’s account above clearly states that the desolation would be near the time that Jerusalem was surrounded by armies.

We know the early Christians did flee from Jerusalem before the final siege.

While He was being taken to the Cross, Jesus warned the women who were weeping for him about what was to come. During this warning He makes a reference similar to that found in Matthew 24:19, about nursing mothers. This warning is also specifically made to these women and their children.

During the siege of 70 AD some women ate their own children, due to the lack of food during the siege.

Luk 23:28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

Luk 23:29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

Almost all scholars agree that the following verse is a specific reference to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.

Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
.....................................................................................................

The first half of Matthew chapter 24 is about the first question asked by the disciples and the last half is about the second question asked by the disciples.

Mat 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

The abomination is found in a "fortress" and a holy land.
The abomination of desolation is not a person but an "it"... that will be set up to be worshiped. All the translations you provided say "set up".

Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

In Revelation 13:14, the false prophet will have the world make a image of the slain and come back to life beast - which the beast is a man, but not the image of him. That the world makes the image imo is that the world will have to supply gold, in similitude of the golden calf image coming out Egypt in Exodus.

The image will be a statue image of the beast in a standing position. That's the abomination of desolation.

The transgression of desolation in Daniel 8 will be something different. The transgression of desolation will be the act of the man of sin going into the temple, sitting, claiming to be God. 2Thessalonians2:3-4.

No ... there is nothing in scripture that supports a 70 AD flee

Not the same setting as it will be at the time of the end [Zechariah 14:1-5; Matthew 24:15-16; Revelation 12:6; 12:14]

And the Lord did not go forth and fight against the Romans .... they won .... the Lord never looses

70 AD was not the time of the end .... only the preterist makes this claim

The Muslim little horn will make his Dome of the Rock the central attraction of his standing of the great controversy between Issac/Jacob .... Ishmael/Esau

The Muslims claim that the Dome has always been there on the mount since built, and that there never was a temple of Israel's doing ... it was Ishmael to be sacrificed and not Issac

Satan is the instigator of the Muslim intransigence against the Lord and His nation of Israel .... and Mohammed was his dupe who corrupted the scriptures of the Bible to his own ambition

The abomination may include the little horn's image as well .... and he is the one who will cause the desolations of Israel
