I am thinking about getting a Missal to read along with the readings at Mass. The one I was looking at was the St. Joseph Missal. Also with the new changes that are coming next year, will they affect the readings at Mass, since that is the main reason I want one.

The new translation will affect the Missals.

As someone who also relies on Missals and will be needing to get another after the changes, how long (do you think) before the publishing houses "catch up" and make one with the changes available?

Some churches won't put Missalettes (which allow people to follow along on Sundays) in the pews because people are supposed to listen to the Word being proclaimed (which is perhaps a throwback to the days when 99% of Catholics were illiterate.)

If your parish has Missalettes, you can find the Sunday Mass prayers and readings within it.

I have also seen churches put printed copies of priests' homilies in the back of the church, especially if the priest is from another country and has a heavy accent. People can pick them up on the way in and read along so that they can understand what is being taught.

Actually, it's a throwback to Judaism. You're supposed to listen to God in His Scriptures
