Jesus the messenger? In a topic, that was as far as I can tell was deleted, the fact that in Islam Jesus was considered a messenger came up.

My question is, "What was Jesus' message according to the beliefs of Islam?"

Exactly what did Jesus have to say to the Muslims that caused them to consider Jesus a messenger?

This question has been bugging me for about a week now :) . Does anybody have an answer to this question?

Muslims often believe that Yeshua was a prophet and the Messiah. Its steeped in the same system of Arianism about Yeshua as is Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons today. Basically, when they accept that Yeshua is God, their system is altered tremendously.

I know that you were looking at the "message" of Jesus when you posed your question, but there is also the inner "experience" of Christ that could be looked at as well. The "message" and the "experience" of Christ are often quite different. So coming from the inner eye perspective on Christ, just yesterday I read an interesting Sufi perspective that goes like this: The Soul of Christ is the Light of the Universe.

If you look at that comment as a "message", your going to miss the fullness of what is being said by that particular Muslim.

You seem to like existentialism a whole lot. I have seen flaws within the philosophical system myself.

Nope...I'm not an existentialist. I'm just a Lover of God.

.

There are different forms of Existentialists though, but categorically, they all utilize an importance of experience, especially over that of A Priori knowledge. In actuality to your comment, the true experience can not be understood without his message (otherwise you don't know who Yeshua is).

Exactly! If one doesn't know the message, there is less likely a chance of that person actually knowing who they speak of. They may know of the person but not know the person. Instead, they claim to know the person when they really don't.

Jesus invited us to know the Father thru Him. Other than actually experiencing the Father thru Jesus, I don't know how else that can happen.

And the reason you know this is because of the message of Yeshua.

What are you experiencing? How do you know?

You have to interpret it according to the worldview that correponds to the truth or you can't know.

I'd invite you to learn more about that truth.

Jesus/Isa aleyhissalam was a messenger/nabi of Allah. This means He had a message for people from Allah (John 7:16 So Jesus answered them and said, "http://www.christianforums.com/#cr-descriptionAnchor-20My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.") just like from Adam up until to Muhammed aleyhissalam. He was sent to fulfill the religion/law of Moses not to bring a different covenant (Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I came to abolish the http://www.christianforums.com/#cr-descriptionAnchor-1Law or the Prophets ; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.) According to Quran Jesus says that He just changed a few laws and made some forbidden things allowed. (Quran 3:50" '(I have come to you), to attest the Torah which was before me. And to make lawful to you part of what was (Before) forbidden to you; I have come to you with a Sign from your Lord. So fear Allah, and obey me.) And He was sent to the children of Israel (Matthew 15:24 But He answered and said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.") (Quran 3:49 "And (appoint him) as a messenger to the Children of Israel...)

Your problem is that in Revelation, written way before the Quran, the same God states that you can't add to the books of the Bible. Secondly, the Quran does not correspond to the Tanakh. Also, the Torah can not be added to, and nothing of this nature exists within the Torah. See Isaiah 9:6. 6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, [a] Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Important is that the prophets utilize the Torah to make their claims.

Does anybody see the peculiar additions to the Bible utilized by the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses mentioned in these claims? Also the early church father interpretations?

I have a question: if Muslims believe that the Bible is corrupt, and therefore false, why are you using it for Jesus' teachings? Why is Jesus a messenger when you have no non-corrupt record of what He actually said?

From our perspective...

We believe that the Qur'an is God's words and unchanged. The Gospels, we believe, still contain much of what Jesus taught. So, I suppose, when some Muslims quote from the Bible, they're thinking "assuming that this part is correct.... etc." Do note though, that if a particular statement/concept found in the Bible is directly confirmed in the Qur'aan, then, our belief in the Qur'an causes us to believe the Biblical statement/concept as true. In the Qur'an, God says that the Qur'an is 1) confirmation of previous Scripture (in general) and 2) a criterion over it.

And, as Anatolian mentioned, we believe Jesus was a Messenger to the Children of Israel.. so, we believe he was God's Messenger on Earth, and he was supposed to have been followed by them. Now, we follow Muhammad's teachings because we believe that he was sent to everyone from his time onward.

And God knows best.

You have to interpret it according to the worldview that correponds to the truth or you can't know.
All I have to do is to open my heart to the Divine. For me, that is through Jesus Christ. No interpretation into worldview is needed. The action taken, and where it becomes real for me is in my Love, Compassion and Service to those who hurt and are in need.

Could you share with us the reasons that make you think that way? Actually this is what Quran says, not my problem. And it seems to fit the Bible.

See Isaiah 9:6. 6 For to us a child is born,

How does this verse relate to our subject?

If you could look at my post again I write the Quranic verses that fit to the biblical ones there. Bible is not our binding source of course. Quran and sahih hadith have enough knowledge for us about Jesus jsut as everything.

Then why use the Bible when the Quran and Hadith are sufficient?
We believe that the Qur'an is God's words and unchanged. The Gospels, we believe, still contain much of what Jesus taught. So, I suppose, when some Muslims quote from the Bible, they're thinking "assuming that this part is correct.... etc." Do note though, that if a particular statement/concept found in the Bible is directly confirmed in the Qur'aan, then, our belief in the Qur'an causes us to believe the Biblical statement/concept as true. In the Qur'an, God says that the Qur'an is 1) confirmation of previous Scripture (in general) and 2) a criterion over it.

I understand that- what I do not understand is, if the Quran is the final word on the matter, why Muslims quote the Bible. You can't be certain that the parts you agree with are the 'uncorrupted' parts. So why take the risk?

And, as Anatolian mentioned, we believe Jesus was a Messenger to the Children of Israel.. so, we believe he was God's Messenger on Earth, and he was supposed to have been followed by them. Now, we follow Muhammad's teachings because we believe that he was sent to everyone from his time onward.

I understand that Muslim views hold both Jesus and Muhammad as messengers. What I have trouble with is reconciling the teachings by the two men. I'm not just talking about the theological aspects either- I'm talking about the type of teaching. Muhammad dictated what his followers were to eat, wear and even how to go to the toilet, whereas Jesus' message focused solely on love for one another and love for God.
