I tend to agree with this statement at times, it's relevant to something I have gone through recently - but I have a question about this.

Since Jesus kept company with various types of sinners, what is the best way to explain why this is different, than if someone were to keep company with people who are not good for him or her to be around?

I would assume that one of the reasons is that Jesus probably often ministered to these types of people or mingled with them with the intent to try to save them - but I don't remember:|

I need a wee bit of help on this, lol.

Jesus went out into a sinful world to save it. Yes Jesus mingled with those that were considered sinners & unclean. But to preach the Good News & to exhort them to repent. Show a new way of living, etc.

There is a difference hanging out with a crowd of people so you can somehow reinforce their sin or participate in it yourself, look cool, be accepted... whatever.

So it depends on what the intent & purpose is.

Jesus told His disciples that if a town rejected them based on their message then to shake the dust from their sandals.

Jesus was God. We are not.

He had a mission & expects us to fulfill His mission of the Great Commission. We are workers in the field.

But we are to avoid all appearances of evil. Do the people we hang around with for fun or whatever give that impression?

Jesus came into the world to save the world. Not to participate or reinforce sin with groups of sinners. But to save them & show them a better way.

Our job is to determine our intentions.

wow this is amazing lol. Your words are better than mine today:) I totally agree - he "hung out" with them to tell them the Good News. NEVER to endorse what they did.

God us while we were still sinners. But loved us enough to tell us to get up & follow Him. :)

My husband has a saying: "If you lie down with dogs, you just might get up with fleas". I tend to agree that some unsavory traits of the people some choose to hang out with, tend to rub off. Now, Jesus as God, didn't have to worry about it, but it's a prudent thing for us to worry about.
