The House in Bethany ~ an early miniature of the church.
John 11:1
Now there was a certain man who was sick, Lazareth from Bethany,
of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
Religion was the main frustration and opposition of Jesus.
Jn 10 shows Him withdrawing from those who were out to kill Him
to the place at the Jorden where John baptised and 'He remained there'
(Jn 10:40)
Bethany was the place where He would raise the dead, outside of religion
Yet He still remained frustrated by the disciples opinions ( 11:8-16)
Martha's opinions (11:32-33)
Mary's opinions (11:36-38)
Jewish opinion (11:36-38)
and again Martha's opinion (11:39-40)
Opinions are from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, so the Lord,
who is the tree of life that will remain when knowledge is gone,
had a job ahead to show His disciples where edification in Him was.
No one really knows the Lord, not even His church.:(

Does everyone remember the bible account about Jacob falling asleep and dreaming of the stairway to heaven that angels ascended and descended on? Well Abraham had set an altar at that place to commemorate the covenent that God had made with him. (Read the altar at Bethel account:press;
HERE
) and it was the place where Abraham worshipped the Lord (press;
HERE
)
So Jacob, before being named Israel by God, was fleeing from Esua's wrath at the deception Jacob was part of to be the inheritor of that covenent blessing. (Read obout the deception and what led to it in Genesis chap 25 & 27)

So there Jacob was, sleeping with his head on a rock when he had a dream. (Read of the dream:press;
HERE) ,

Gen 28:12,17 Jacob dreamed that there was a ladder resting on the earth and reaching up into heaven, and he saw angels of God going up and coming down the ladder. ... He was afraid and said, "This place frightens me! It is surely the house of God and the gate of heaven."

So shall we see who the real house of God at Bethel is....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John 1:50-51
50 Jesus said to Nathanael, "Do you believe simply because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than that." 51 And Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and 'angels of God going up and coming down'[a] on the Son of Man."

Footnotes:
John 1:51 'angels . . . down' These words are from Genesis 28:12.

Jesus is the answer to Jacob's dreams and to all of our dreams because He is the entrance to the House of God and thru Him all prayers are answered whether directly from God or thru His messengers.

To be continued.......The accounts in the Old Testiment have direct bearing on the teachings of Jesus, follow along!

So, Israel, who used to be Jacob, now has 12 boys and one girl that we know of and is living in Shechem where Abraham first made the altar of covenent (see

SCESHEM_ALTAR

) when the boys decide to murder and pillage using the daughter's love interest as bait.( The love interest had committed the same crime that Absalom killed for except that here he wanted to marry her, but with Absolom's offence it was incest and hatred instead of lust and love) Compare the two stories

SHECHEM

and

ABSALOM

Because of what the 12 had done Jacob/Israel fled back to the Lord at the altar of Bethel. The Lord told him to ABIDE THERE.

ABIDE_IN_BETHEL

Gen 35:1,16 God said to Jacob, "Go to the city of Bethel and live there. 16 Jacob and his group left Bethel.

Jacob/Israels's love dies and is buried outside Bethlehem.

RACHEAL_DIES and is buried at the marker at Bethlehem

Jesus tells us to "ABIDE IN HIM" He is the Bethel, He is our House of God. We can't wander away because when we do Our Love dies, but it awaits again like a baby waiting to mature

ABIDE

The mother that died giving birth to Bejamin called him the son of her suffering,
but the father called him son of his right hand. How differently people see things.

The sufferings from the offspring bring suffering to the parents as seen in Absalom and Shechem.

The Jews had rejected God by getting a king to rule over them (see:
HERE
)
King David was also told to abide somewhere by God. It was in Hebron
(another place covenent between Abraham and God (see:
HERE
) also the place where Abraham buried his wife (see:
HERE
) and it was the place given to Caleb to dwell (see:
HERE
) but David moved on to conquer Jerusalem.( see:
HERE
)
So we see Jesus and the prophets meeting their death there.
The true Hebronites are seen in the book of Hebrews.
They have crossed the Euphrates and the Jorden and are dwelling in the good land.
Jesus had not even a place to lay His head.
But God still calls that His land, a small piece of the earth that spiritually
Jesus expanded to cover the earth.

el-`Azariyeh. `Bethania', Gk. form of Beth-ananiah, i.e. O.T. Ananiah.
Bethany "house, place of unripe figs"

Greek
Strongs #963: bhyania Bethania
Bethany = "house of dates" or "house of misery" meaning prayers of suffering answered

1) a village at the Mount of Olives, about two miles (3 km) from
Jerusalem, on or near the normal road to Jericho
2) a town or village on the east bank of the Jordan, where John was
baptising

Bethany
A village on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, John 11:18.
Mary, Martha, and Lazarus dwell at, Luke 10:38-41.
Lazarus dies and is raised to life at, John 11.
Jesus attends a feast at the house of Simon
(Matthew 26:1-13; Mark 14:3-9; Luke 7:36-50; John 1:2:1-8).
The colt on which Jesus made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem obtained at, Mark 11:1-11.
Jesus sojourns at, Matt. 21:17; Mark 11:11, 12, 19.
The Ascension as recorded in Luke 24:50-51 is thus described:
"He led them out until they were over against Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven."

Bethany (Question to a Jewish Rabbi)
I was wondering if you could tell me the meaning of the place name "Bethany".
I believe "Beth" means "house", so could it have originally meant house of something??

Your question uncovers a most interesting problem.
First, Bethany is not a Hebrew word.
Second, Bethany is not found anywhere in the Torah, the Writings or the Prophets.
Third, it is said that Bethany is the name for the West Bank town of El-Azariyeh,
supposedly named in honor of Lazarus.
Fourth, the meaning / definition of Bethany is uncertain according to Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible. Zondervan states that Bethany probably means "house of dates or figs." Unger's Bible Dictionary indicates Bethany means "house; place of unripe figs." Bethany is defined by Berry's Interlinear Greek - English New Testament to mean "house of misery." Strong's Concordance defines Bethany to mean "date house."
New Thayer's Greek - Lexicon defines Bethany to mean, "house of depression or misery." Each of these authors are considered scholarly among Christian Messianics.
Fifth, Christians / Messianics are uncertain of the proper spelling for Bethany. The Trinitarian Bible Society, another well respected group among Christians / Messianics, spells Bethany differently in several publications of their Hebrew - English New Testament when attempting to translate into Hebrew.

If Bethany is not a Hebrew word, if Bethany is not found in Hebrew dictionaries, if Bethany does not exist anywhere in Tenach and if the definition of Bethany cannot be determined nor agreed upon by non Jewish scholars and translators then what does this say about the New Testament? Does Bethany exist? Did Bethany ever exist? This casts much doubt on the credibility of the New Testament, its writers, its translators and its scholars.
Thayer states that Origen {an early church father who is generally considered the greatest theologian
and biblical scholar of the early Eastern church by non Jewish scholars} confesses "that in his day
{185 CE- 254 CE} nearly all the codd. {manuscripts} {then} read {Bethany},
declares that when he journeyed through those parts he did not find any place of that name."

Yet this is the place from which Christ ascended and will return in the same manner as seen leave.
And He is our ascending and descending ladder to Heaven.

"Just outside the city of Churchianity, outside of the busyness of religion,
in a fruitful place of REST lies the village of Bethany... resting in the knowledge that
"the works were finished from the foundation of the world." (Heb. 4:3)
This is where you’ll find the presence of the Lord... this is where you’ll find effective ministry...
this is where you’ll be apprehended by your God-ordained destiny."

Jacob's ladder and the disciples first meeting with Jesus when He said they would all see angels ascending and descending on Him wasn't a new revelation because I knew Jesus was our Bethel. But Him ascending and descending from Bethany was knew to me. I've just begun studying John 11 in my spare time and opening the OP to the House of Bethany has already blessed me and others. So thank You Jesus!

You know sister, this is what I tried to expalin to you before when I talked about the Ezekiel Temple, I hope this okay to say, but The Prince in us - our love for God/The Word, self and neighbour and all Good Creation is His Voice/Spirit within us. The Designer. Perfecter indeed the Ladder Himself into Heaven

He is the only O(o)ne in us who can go to the holiest place in the Temple for worship and offerings, please do check the ordinances that are written there - Ezekiel 40-48 - though best begin at chapter 36 as intro to it - and compare them with what you shared here and you will see what I mean, especially because you are so well versed in the old way.

For if we then take these Words of loving truth in mind and heart - both the Ezekiel Temple and the house of Bethany - and then eat Revelation 4 ( and when He is alive - eat Rev 5-7) in Spirit of submissive Love - then the Temple with the ark of the covenant in place really begins to become clear! Especially facing East!

Here you have confirmed an extra-ordinary beautiful piece of Truth in my eyes of understand, loving and knowing Him.

Such awesome Prince our Lord is - and we are with Him and in Him and from Him and through Him and ......how great The Living Word of God, that we may know and love Him - is a miracle of God's Grace all in itself.

Revelation 5

Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice,

"Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?"

But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.

Then one of the elders said to me,

"Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals."

Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders.

He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb.

Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

And they sang a new song:

"You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased men for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth."

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang:
"Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!"

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:

"To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!"

The four living creatures said,

"Amen,"

and the elders fell down and worshiped.

2 Kings 2

1 When the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. 2 Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; the LORD has sent me to Bethel."
But Elisha said, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.
6 Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here; the LORD has sent me to the Jordan."
And he replied, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So the two of them walked on.
7 Fifty men of the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?"
"Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied.
10 "You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise not."
11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart.
13 He picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the water with it. "Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.

Luke 9:51-62

51As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. 52And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; 53but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?" 55But Jesus turned and rebuked them, 56and they went to another village.
The Cost of Following Jesus
57As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
58Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
59He said to another man, "Follow me."
But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family."
62Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

I just found a new reference to Bethel!

Genesis 31:13
13 I am the God of Bethel. That is where you poured olive oil on a sacred stone. There you made a promise to me. Now leave this land. Go back to your own land.’ ”

  20. Ephes 3:18 That Ye may be able **to comprehend** with all saints **what is** the breadth, and length, and depth, and height
  21. Zech 2:2 Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me To measure **Jerusalem**, to see **what is** the breadth thereof, and **what is** the length thereof.
  22. Theres a heavenly and earthly Jerusalm and here
  23. Rev 3:12 ...I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is **new Jerusalem**, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
  24. Zech 2:3-4 And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him, And said unto him, **Run**, **speak to this young man***, saying, Jerusalem shall be **inhabited as** towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein
  25. Then here...
  26. Isaiah 60:18... but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
  27. Zech 2:5 For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her
  28. Isaiah 60:19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
  29. Psalm 17:2 Let my sentence come forth from **thy presence**; let thine eyes **behold** the things that **are equal**.
  30. And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it **are equal**.
  31. Isaiah 40:25 To whom then will ye **liken me**, or shall **I be equal**? saith the Holy One.
  32. Here...
  33. And he measured **the wall** thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to **the measure of a man**, that is, of the angel.
  34. It speaks of the full measure of the "perfect man" unto the full measure of Christ (in Whom the fulness of God) dwelt.
  35. Again...
  36. Zech 2:5 For **I**, saith the LORD, will be unto her **a wall** of fire **round about** and will be the glory in the midst of her
  37. Again..
  38. Isaiah 40:25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall **I be equal**? saith the Holy One.
  39. Rev 4:3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper
  40. Rev 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was of **jasper**: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
  41. Ephes 2:22 **In whom** ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
  42. We are each given **A MEASURE** of FAITH (and we ADD to our faith). The measure we are to come UNTO is the FULL MEASURE of the STATURE of Christ = THE PERFECT MAN, the measure of a man, that of AN ANGEL
  43. Ephes 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto **the measure **of the stature of ** the fulness of Christ
  44. Who was made LOWER then the Angels (in that he suffered death)
  45. Gal 4:14.... but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
  46. Again here...
  47. he measured **the wall** thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to **the measure*** of a man, that is, of the angel.
  48. The stature pertains to the cubits as in Mat 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? The cubits in rev are in the context of the wall (He is become unto her) and is according to the measure of a man (the perfect man even as Christ) yet is also that is of the Angel. It does speak of us "growing up into Him" unto the measure of the stature attributed to the fulness of Christ. He was only made LOWER THAN the angels only in one respect (He suffered death).
  49. The word EQUAL is used to how we behold things and to whom we compare HIS EQUAL (even LIKE HIM) and what is as EQUAL TO (in measures) and EQUAL to the ANGELS etc.
  50. Peter calls Christ a "precious stone" the first foundation stone in rev (that was is UNDER) is Jasper as Christ is the foundation. The woman HAVING (within her) the glory of God (in rev again) is again likened unto this same precious stone (Jasper) as the glory of God is Christ in her. The building of "the wall of it" is also of Jasper (that which surrounds her) even as the Lord is reckoned as the wall unto her. Lastly and he that SAT was to look upon AS the Jasper as well. You have (under her that which is him) in "the midst of" her (again it is him) the wall surrounding her (which is him) and above her (He that sat)
  51. Pretty kool stuff, though I sorta see this as the measures of His love signified because the love of God in Christ Jesus we are to know does surpasses all knowledge.

"Amen,"
And some others whilst I was looking …. Luke 21:36, Jeremiah 35-Jeremiah 36, Ezekiel 2, along with Revelation 10

and the elders fell down and worshiped.
The elders from Revelation 4 that cast their crowns seem to be the angels from what I've gathered https://www.christianforums.com/threads/casting-crowns.7772032/

In my experiences the elders are religious convictions that have ruled over us since the beginning of our walk with Him. So when Christ is revealed as seated on the throne then the laying down of our crowns/ruler ship means that we surrender to Christ as King over us 100 percent.

That is the other interpretation that the thread deals with. Altho I see only KJV supporting it.

There is no doubt that Israel is the family of the bridegroom. When all is said and done Amos 3-5 has much to say about Bethel as well as Hosea 12:4-6

Hosea 12:3-4
The prophet Hosea gives us a cameo that insightfully contrasts the combative, self-reliant, competitive supplanter, Jacob, with the overcomer he became, Israel. Hosea completes the picture Moses sketches in Genesis: Jacob wept, humbly begging God's favour. Jacob's experience in Bethel, where God changed his name, as well as his earlier experience in Peniel, where God wrestled with him, were milestones on his road to conversion. God understood that Jacob was bent on prevailing, that he was an overcomer. His new name, meaning "He prevails with God," was apt indeed!
