Some questions...

Is it okay for Christians to hate other Christians simply because they disagree with them?

Should Christians who profess that hatred continue to stew and seethe about them to other people?

Is it okay for Christians to carry grudges?

Others themselves, no. What said Christians might do in pursuit of their opinions, yes, perfectly okay to hate. Hating that a lot of Christians don't act like it, yeah, perfectly okay to hate. It's not right. It's lying to one's self, others, and to the Holy Spirit. You don't claim to be changed by Christ's love and not share it with others. That's a load of excrement.
Should Christians who profess that hatred continue to stew and seethe about them to other people?
Which hatred? The hatred I just outlined, or hatred for other people?

Is it okay for Christians to carry grudges?
Define grudge. If by grudge you mean not forgiving someone, then no, not okay. If by grudge you mean not forgetting what someone's like and the patterns they hold, then no, that's perfectly fine. We'd be in a poor state if we forgot how regularly some people can do stupid things.

I agree with this. We are commanded to love God and to love others as ourselves. Where there is love, there can not be hatred. Just as where there is light there can not be darkness. :)
Then why does it exist? God is love and light. By existing, He creates their contrast. Anyway, your Bible disagrees with you:
Ecc 3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
Ecc 3:2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
Ecc 3:3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
Ecc 3:4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Ecc 3:5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
Ecc 3:6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
Ecc 3:7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
Ecc 3:8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

1 John 4:20
If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

Luke 6:27
[ Love for Enemies ] "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

The bible tells us to hate what is wicked, meaning sin. In terms of actually hating people, though, I don't think the bible ever advocates for that. We can hate what they do, but we shouldn't hate them.

I tend to think that hate eats a person up. If someone can't get rid of that hate, it consumes them, and I think it's somewhat of a possession...I certainly don't think hate comes from God...so that tells you where I think hate comes from.

:amen:

I agree, except that I do believe God created all things and all things come from him. So, from that standpoint I do believe God created "hate" but not with the intention that it be used for bad. He created it for the purpose of us to have the ability to hate sin. :)

I said this in another thread while dealing with a particular issue. But it is also relevant here in the general sense.

We can measure our love for God.

Our love for God is measured by the amount of love we have for the person we love the least.

Jesus said what is the use of just loving those who are easy to love, or who love us? I read this today: If we as Christian brethren love our brothers and sisters in Christ then we are in a good spiritual state. But if we see a Christian brother or sister and do not love them as Christ loved us, we do not have the spirit of Christ and therefore we are not in a good spiritual state with God.

So the challenge is, how much do we love God?

The measure of our love for God is the amount we love Jesus Christ. Jesus says that if we love Him we will do what He teaches. He also says we are to seek all He teaches (John 14-15, Matthew 28) and conform all to His truth 2 Corintians 10.

It is true that part of what He teaches is to love brothers and sisters as He loved so that the world will know who His disciples are. It is also part of what He teaches is to love and not hate even enemies. But thats only part, He teaches to seek to obey all He taught.

So our measure is not just loving brothers and sisters, but that is part of the measure.

Herein lies the danger of humanism.

No. John says you never were a Christian if you hate another Christian.

Should Christians who profess that hatred continue to stew and seethe about them to other people?

:confused:

Is it okay for Christians to carry grudges?

No.

Love you enemy, be they Christian or not. But so many Christians can't do this, at least when they are face with a real enemy, and not someone who just made them mad from time to time.

This may be a silly analogy, but applies to every person, Christian or not. I watched the first 3 Star Wars movies the other day (yes, I am a nerdy engineer, he he), and followed Anakin Skywalkers journey to the Dark Side and eventual Darth Vader persona.

Yoda spells it out: 'Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate, and Hate leads to Suffering'. Anakin essentially destroys himself from within, I believe this happens to people in real life as well.

Freud said: 'one day it will be proven, that a life of Hate will be shown as a cause of cancer'.

If you won't rid yourself of Hate for the peace of others, then at least do it for yourself, it can and will destroy you. It is the Dark Force (Evil, Satan), and is the complete opposite in nearly every aspect to that of Love. This is one of the few things that I do know.

Would this be a good time to say that in my neighborhood, there is a convicted child predator (not molester, but predator, which is like the difference between a killer and a serial killer). He had dozens of victims before he was caught, and for the life of me, I'm not sure how he got out after only 10 years in prison. That being said, very few people show him any kind of love, unless you count wanting to kill him but not doing such love.

If he ever touches my little sister, I'm not sure I will be able to show him anything but a painful way to die, and I know enough biology to ensure it is very, very painful.

God tells us to love our enemies. If he came down and asked you how you have shown love to your enemies, could you answer him in the positive?

What your neighbor did is heinous and awful. You are allowed to hate the action, but you should not hate him. We're all sinners in this world and in the end, when the believers are standing in front of the judgment seat, fortunately God won't view us as sinners, but as redeemed children because of Jesus' sacrifice.

I don't know if your neighbor is a believer or not. We know Christians can do awful things even as they are Christian, but thankfully we do have a merciful Father.

If he ever touches my little sister, I'm not sure I will be able to show him anything but a painful way to die, and I know enough biology to ensure it is very, very painful.

This would not be in accordance with God's teachings. I hope you are never tested on whether you'd actually do it or not, either...

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35)

If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.(1 John 4:20)

Fairly conclusive answer there, I think!

Well this is true, but Jesus also says to love Him is to obey His teaching (John 14-15, Matthew 28) So brothers are those who obey His teaching.
Besides I suspect this has come about because some have consistently suggested hate when they are exposed as not believing Christ's teaching... which coincides with atheistis and pagans not sure whether some Christian views are the same as theirs, which some Christians say, or different as other Christians say.

Some questions...

Is it okay for Christians to hate other Christians simply because they disagree with them?
No!!!!
Should Christians who profess that hatred continue to stew and seethe about them to other people?
No!!!! They will not find the comfort they need until they turn it over to the Spirit of God.
Is it okay for Christians to carry grudges?
No!!! People who carry grudges have a problem and need help from other Christians. They need friends who are willing to listen and help them forgive.
