I'm not entirely sure what my calling in life is yet. I don't know what my passion is. I don't know if it has even been revealed yet. I've prayed a lot, but haven't received any clear guidance, so I'm waiting patiently upon the Lord.

My questions to you are:
What do you feel God has called you specifically for?
If you're not sure, what are your passions in life?
For those of us who don't know yet, how do we figure this out?

Alot of doubt going on, but I realize that most of the time we put ourselves in a position that opens a door to allow doubt in. So, it's "just me" and that I can pray about with certainty. For a while now I've believed my calling was in writing. Recently one of my constant back of the mind desires has come to the front and in a way was confirmed for me through a close friend as possibly being my true calling. That one is being a Pastor, though I have a long ways to go before I am fit for such a calling both emotionally and knowledge of the Word.

Two of my passions are in writing and talking, to me both of these seem to backup the Pastor idea. I don't know for sure if any of these are really my calling but there has been enough evidence from God to suggest I need to take them seriously as potential callings. At least to me, and the few people I told that story too, keep meaning to post it somewhere but not sure where it would fit.

My suggestion on figuring it out is just to keep praying for God to show you your path and to give you the wisdom and guidance to make the right decisions to follow it.

Good point. God does give us what we need for the tasks he sends us on. Sometimes it doesn't seem that way but he never fails.

Aw, well you're welcome! It was in one of my devotionals today, so I figured I'd share it.

As far as my own passions go, I don't really know. I absolutely LOVE history, but I don't see myself as being a teacher. So I'm not quite sure what I would do with a degree in history if I decided to pursue it. Other than that, I honestly have no idea what my calling in life is. I tend to change my mind about a LOT of stuff, so I'm always half-afraid to step forward with anything. ((When I was little I used to want to be a contortionist. My how things have changed!))

I'm called to worship Him and seek Him and His truth and share the gospel, beyond that I'm not convinced I'm called to any specific mission field. I'm not even convinced everyone or even most people are called to a specific ministry

I believe He gave me passions and talents though that I can follow and I will find my direction in life from doing that and in doing so fulfill my generic calling as a Christian to worship and preach the gospel. How it will all pan out in the end is something I can't tell you now though.

i hope that came out as something more meaningful than the senseless rambling it felt like to me

You made absolute PERFECT sense!!

So many times I think that's our biggest problem. We feel that our calling has to be something so grand and profound, that sometimes we don't realize what our true calling is.
Some of us are called to simply be a good friend to others, or a godly spouse or mother/father, painters, shop owners, etc.

What's really important is that we keep this in mind:
1 Corinthians 10:31 -- 31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

I honestly don't know specifically as in involvement with the masses.

If I think about it, I've always had a pull towards older youth. As funny as it sounds, I wanted to be a christian teen counselor at age 11. I felt older then. I have passions/interests for the dynamics of "broken" homes and teen self-esteem/personality issues. I'm very protective of that age particularly the ones that kind of stay in the shadows. It's almost a defiant protective thing for them. It's not usually for those I know either. They "stand out" to me when I'm in public. I can't go anywhere without noticing someone. It tears me up. Sports, developing into the person you were meant to be, teaching by just giving of time....maybe those could be incorporated somewhere.

Figure it out? ha Don't know what to tell ya. I'm just hoping that I can stay where I should be to be able to be guided day to day.

When I was choosing my career, I prayed that if it was God's will that I should study podiatry that I would be accepted for a place and if not then all my applications should be rejected. I prayed the same prayer when I applied for a Speech Therapy course and all my applications came back negative (which is very unusual). Well I got in. There have been times when I really thought I don't have the skills or the brains to do this course however the belief that God has called me to this profession helped me to get through it. A Bible passage that God really spoke to me through was Exodus 35:30 -

"Then Moses said to the Israelites, "See, the LORD has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 31 and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts- 32 to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, 33 to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship. 34 And he has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. 35 He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as craftsmen, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them master craftsmen and designers."

If studying podiatry was part of God's plan for me and if all skills come from God who gives them to who He likes I shouldn't worry. So now I pray that God will supply me with all the necessay skills and wisdom and I can work and study with real purpose instead of being bogged down by doubts. Just my personal testimony for what its worth!

I must admit, podiatry isn't something you hear about all that often. What sparked your interest in the field?

Also, do you guys think it's wrong to ask God to show signs of His will? Often times I'll ask that God would send me a sign so that I can understand a little better, but sometimes I think: "Well what if that's wrong?" I guess I feel that sometimes it's almost like bossing God around, when in reality we have no authority to do that.

I don't think that's wrong at all. He encourages people to seek him out and to know his will.

What do you feel God has called you specifically for? I don't think that God calls us to do just one thing, some have many things that intertwine with each other. Like Intercession and cure of souls. (Goole translation, let me know if that's something that google translated very badly and I'll explain what I mean) For me personally I do feel that God has called me to work with children in one way or another.

If you're not sure, what are your passions in life? Children, just seeing the light in their eyes when they master something new. Hearing them reason with each other to figure things out. The honesty in them, the pure joy they can express. They can be a challenge but I try to look at them through Gods eyes and it has helped me to keep my cool in many situations.

But also kids that are hurting in one way or another. My brother was bullied in school and I don't know but I think I can do some work in that area.. once God gives me the ok... (if He does)

For those of us who don't know yet, how do we figure this out?
Don't be afraid to try different things. Pray!!

I used to go to a podiatrist myself so I knew a bit about from a patient perspective. I wanted to study something that would help people, that was intellectually stimulating and that would get me a job with a reasonable starting wage. Podiatry ticked all the boxes!

I don't see anything wrong with asking for a sign and there's good biblical precedent for it.
