Hi Brothers and Sisters,

Can I check with you all is there any verse(s) from the bible that states that if one is saved by accepting christ, would result to his entire family members saved as well.

My sister just told me that her cellgroup leader mentioned about this but he did not provide the verses yet. So I would wish to know first, can anyone help me on this?

There are passages of Scripture that talk about salvation coming to a persons house, or say things like and the household was saved.

Joh 4:53
Acts 11:14, 16:31

What it does not say, or even intend to say, is that one person saved in a family will be the same as saving everyone in the family. However, it seems that is what this person seems to think these verses mean. What really occurred was each person in those families came to be saved individually.

We must remember that Jesus talked about how salvation can actually divide familes. Luke 12:53. So, the person teaching that one person saved results in the whole family being saved has really misunderstood the Scriptures, or intentionally twisted them. In any case he is teaching a lie.

That doesn't happen.

You must be referring to where whole households acepted Christ.

Acts 16:15 KJV
[15] And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Hi all, I found the verses. It is Acts 16:31 (31They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.")

There is also another example in the Genesis whereby God told Noah to enter the ark with his entire family to be saved. God did not say his family members were righteous but saved them on the fact that Noah was righteous.

So what is the point of all these verses involving individual's family? Does God means that he will only save, meaning to say that save their earth's life only? but not their soul eternally? am i right or wrong

pls enlighten me.. because I don want my sister to be misled

:) Welcome IvanONG ... awesome question! I learn so much from these kind of questions.

I was so tickled to see the verses by Mont4x4 ... good scriptures

John 4:53 (read 43-53)
Jesus heal's anobleman's son

So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

Acts 11:14 (verses 1-18)
Peter is rebuked by the Jewish Christians
Who shall tell these words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

Acts 16:31 (verses 25-40)
The conversion of the Philippian jailer

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

This is what I see. In these verses the household isn't saved automatically because the one person is. They are saved because their eyes and ears were opened to the truth and they came to believe. In some cases the person comes to believe at the same time as members of his house.

In John they witnessed a miracle. In verse 48 Jesus says Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

In Acts 11 they were given words ... words of the gospel by whereby we can be eternally saved ... when the Holy Spirit fell upon them there was no denying the truth and they believed.

The house shall be as welcome to the benefit of salvation as thou are, even the meanest servant thou hast. [Matthew Henry commentary]

Acts 16 is another case of coming to belief by both seeing something and by the words of the gospel.

Please be reminded that is what I see. Don't take my word for it ... read them for yourself and let the Holy Spirit guide you. Hope this helps. God bless

In Acts 16:31, it is stated:
"Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved --you and your household."

I believe this is not a blanket statement to say that one person can accept Christ's salvation for the whole family. Believing and accepting Jesus is a PERSONAL decision.

I believe this verse means this:
1) Believing in Jesus is what saves a person, and this offer is open to ALL (i.e. you and your household)
2) The good news is -- When one is saved, all in family are given a boost, extra dosage of grace and opportunity to be saved.

Why?
Because the saved soul is the best guide to point others to the LIGHT. He/she is like a special agent planted into the family to influence, to love and to shine for the Father in heaven. This translates to more and more opportunity for unbelieving family members to hear, witness and taste God's goodness.

This is true in my case. Since I became a believer in my teenage years, I have come to witness the salvation of my mom, my dad, my brothers and now my mom-in-law! God is good and His word is faithful indeed.

There are verses about it. Joshua: me and my house we will serve the Lord. If you believe them and claim them, I believe they all can be saved. Jesus' brothers got saved. The whole family of Rachab, but they had a choise to stay in her house or not. I think they all did. Benny Hinn had a teaching about it and he claimed his whole family. His brother was the worst case and when he got saved, he said: if he can be saved, anyone can. Sid Roth also led his family to the Lord. They're verses to build your faith for it. Very good preaching it was and also ways to pray for them out of the Bible. Then they still have a will to chose, but it makes it a lot easier to get saved. It works if you believe it and act upon it. There are also verses that you can't know if your unbelieving spouse will be saved, but if they don't want to, they'll leave, so if they don't leave, ask (it says claim from) Me and I will give you nations for your inheritance, freely translated out of Dutch, sorry. It's verses you use for interceding in faith.

There is a scripture that states that your family is made holy thru your holiness. I don't remember which verse it is, but I remember seeing it years ago and taking great comfort in it. It is "immediate" family only.

I don't think that's the case, cause a person must voluntarily accept Jesus as their personal savior and admit they're a sinner saved by grace. I wish it happened like you said though, cause pretty much everyone's hearts are very hardened yet in my family and I worry for them a lot. I think what she referred to was the fact that we need to look for ways to preach the Gospel with both our words and actions and in this way, the Holy Spirit will be able to work with the hearts of men. And of course, what we really need to do is pray. This opens many doors for God. And confess those people's sins before the Lord, cause they can't do it themselves yet. I hope this helps. :) Trust God with this, and know that salvation is the greatest gift imaginable.
