SNoochface- Do you know I had to look up your old posts to find this thread hoping you had posted here? Whenever I click on "small screen" I only see three threads listed and AI is not one of them. How weird is that?

That's really strange. I see several pages of threads - how odd. I'm glad you found your way to it :)

They cut Shelby Dressel? I think she fit in and sang well and wonder if her facial nerve damage has anything to do with the cut. Shelby did a great job. Praying for her career. Does anyone know when we find out who will replace Michael Lynche? I hope they bring Shelby in. They have to have a replacement and how they will decide i hope we get to see.

I was not as impressed with Shelby Dressel as you were. I seriously doubt her facial problems had anything to do with it as it gave her a rather exotic look.

As for Michael Lynche, I've not seen anything that indicated he has been officially removed, merely that it was a possibility since his father apparently talked about information that was confidential. I'm guessing part of their problem in trying to remove Michael is that he was not the one who appears to have broken the rules and, without evidence that Michael broke his agreements, they could be sued for eliminating Michael because of something his father did. Their recourse, in the case of the father, would be to sue the father for breach of contract.

If Michael is replaced, I would guess we would hear it tonight; the top 24 should be arriving back in Hollywood this week for next weeks show. There is, however, no possibility of Shelby Dressel replacing him as they have gone back to the 12-guy and 12-girl format of top 24; meaning Michael would be replaced by another male.

I don't like that they feel the need to make it exactly equal males and females. I think it should be the top 24 period. Some years it will favor one sex over the other...oh well. It's about equal opportunity not equal outcome. At any rate, so far it appears to be a girls season in terms of talent. There are some great guys, but from what they've shown, it looks to me like the girls are edging the guys out.

I agree with this, I've never cared for the idea that they needed equal numbers of girls and guys in the final. I definitely feel that we'd have more girls than guys this year if they simply took the top 24 singers.

OTOH, I'd likely change a lot about the show such as not inviting bad singers to the first judges audition just so they can be ridiculed, as well as getting rid of some of the manufactured drama.

I read last night that Chris Golightly (sp?) was originally put through to the top 24, and you can see him in the group shot at the end before they start naming each individual. But, he was disqualified (haven't confirmed why but I'm reading a previous contract that he didn't inform them about) so Tim Urban was put through as his replacement.

As talented as the girls were last night, I was disappointed in most. I guess the song choices left a lot to be desired. Nothing really excited me or jumped out at me.

Plus, I was willing to give her a chance, but Ellen's not doing anything for me. I really miss Paula because she was so unpredictable, bubbly, dancing and had a lot of chemistry with Simon. I really had to barf at the opening clip of a feigned romance between Simon and Ellen. Since Ellen's gay, it was barely funny. Nothing will come close to the big kiss Simon and Paula shared years ago. That whole dream sequence was hysterical! I guess I'll have to wait for next year's X Factor when Paula will supposedly (hopefully) adjudicate with Simon again.

I started thinking about this last night and it seems every year it takes 2 or 3 weeks before we start seeing great performances. I think a lot of it has to do with getting used to performing on the stage, before a crowd, and with the pressure of knowing millions of people are watching and going to vote. Not to mention, getting used to the weekly routine, the band, and what help is available to help. I imagine for almost all of them, their head is still spinning as they try to adjust to life on AI and learn all the little things they need to know.

And I'm going to disagree with you. I don't miss Paula at all. Paula rarely (maybe twice a year) actually judged, rather most of the time she acted simply as a cheerleader.

The bickering and "chemistry" between Paula and Simon was manufactured -- you can tell they are friends off screen and that most of what happened between them on camera was scripted. I knew last night when I saw the seating of the judges exactly what they were doing, even before it was pointed out. They are putting Kara next to Simon so they can have a similar type of bickering/chemistry between Kara and Simon as they did with Paula, though it will be a bit different to fit Kara's personality.

As for the little clip at the beginning, I found it funny. Mostly because guys don't ever seem to care if a woman is gay -- guys always seem to think they can "cure" women of lesbianism. In fact, often guys will try even harder when they learn a woman is lesbian because of the "challenge".

Sorry! I think Paula did judge in her own way. She may not have been as critical, but she was trying to balance out Simon, IMO. And although the "bickering" was scripted to a certain extent, the chemistry wasn't. Ya can't fake chemistry. It is what it is.
