Dutch Sheets?

I have been with a very small church for the past 3 weeks and it seems to be somewhat Charismatic. They started a home bible study about "Intercessory prayer", and I was at the first meeting.

There is a video and a handout sheet titled, "Dutch Sheets". I see John Wesley mentioned, and I am familiar with his theology. Jack Hayford is mentioned. I have heard him preach on the radio, but I'm not familiar with that church. Is he word of faith?

I would appreciate any help with this. I can remember how years ago I always spoke God's Word as authority before an Intercessory prayer. For instance, "The Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered". The first lesson of the Dutch Sheets seem to be like a normal prayer for our desires.

At the bottom of the handout is, "Gospel Light, Ventura, CA"

I know nothing of him, just heard his name. Most likely, he is just the latest in a long list of Christian celebrities. Looks like he is just another in a growing list of “apostles”.

Wow . I remember doing that . SHows me even more how much influence wof had on that group . I am glad that I got over it - a bit superstitious and a bit like witchcraft .

Dutch Sheets is one of three leaders of the Prophetic camp that has morphed into the Apostolic/Prophets camp.

They are as much Word of Faith as I am a ballerina doing a dance on Mars. Several of them openly spoke against and mocked Kenneth Hagin, father of the modern Word of Faith.

Many, Many in the Word of Faith, as well as others, have spoken their thoughts and concerns from this movement.

I was listening for a bit to your teaching, and Zub, you know you are right - there is no one in the Bible referred to as a prayer warrior.

Excuse me for interrupting. It's just that I had not given that much thought before. Funny how we coin phrases/titles/whatever, and they become almost "biblical".

Anyway, I love hearing someone teach who stays true to the Word. Go, Zub!

I've never been moved to read anything by Dutch Sheets though I've had ample opportunity. A lady from my church whom I have great respect for read his book and developed a passion for prayer. Now whether she already had a passion for prayer and he helped it along, I cannot say.

As for me, I have not had a leading whatsoever to read his book(s).

Next week I am dealing with the fact that only Jesus is called an intercessor in the New Testament and that we cannot pray like Abraham or Moses because of Jesus. It is actually great news!

Hey, what are you doing here? I am listening to you right now, and talking to you over the internet at the same time! LOL Praise God for technology. What a blessing it is.

You make me laugh! Talking about praying for an hour being a chore....because you have to...and then likening it to making someone talk to their wife for an hour....a person simply has to hear it for themselves. Funny. LOL kind of funny.

Mr Sheets, Cindy Jacobs were there among others were there discussing the 'Apostolic Reformation' incouding setting up an 'Apostle of the city'.

Dads name came up and they each had their comments to make. I was about to walk out when the pastor I was with dressed both of them down.

The meeting ended, as did their plans for apostolic reformtion in the area.

Am I understanding you to say that in putting down a brother in the LORD the anointing was stopped, the move of God was stopped?

Nope, but when they belittled another minister, they lost the respect of everyone in the room. So, their words prevented them from their goals.

I watched Dutch Sheets on a God TV 'conference' "Starting the year off right", in 09 I think, he spoke about a vision he had for 40 minutes, and never quoted scripture once.
He belong to the New Apostolic Reformation group, led by Chuck Pierce, and that other Wagner guy. They are the ones who came up with spiritual mapping etc.
I don not trust them.

Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. This is going to be an interesting bible study, because both Dutch and Sheets are members of the "Presence Movement". The small church "Vineyard" statement of faith doesn't support the "Presence Movement". The movement believes that salvation is through mercy rather than the Cross. From what I have read, God spoke to Dutch and the movement is trying to take over the world. I noticed that "Hosting the Presence" is a lot like the Catholic theory of the Presence of Jesus in the wafer.

The old way of intercessory pray involved the Cross, so I am wondering about Dutch and his new ideas? Basically, in the old days we used go deep within our soul to confess our sins and then fast for a couple of days. That way we could die onto our self. Then we would surrender our self into God the Father's hands, and be crucified with Christ. The Holy Spirit proceedth from the Father through us to the Son who interceded to God the Father. We spoke a Bible Verse as authority. I guess they call that "Word of Faith"?

I would appreciate knowing more about Dutch and the Presence Movement if anyone has something to add. Are they New Age? I already know that I'm out of date, so forget about that.

Balance, perhaps your concern is that they belittled Hagin, not "another minister", because I see you have no problem criticising Dutch Sheets and Cindy Jacobs!

That said, I'm not a big fan of the Apostolic Movement/Reformation. In fact I have as many concerns about them as I have the Word of Faith Movement.

And when the two movements meld...watch out! The classic example of this is...cough...Todd Bentley...cough. Who is both Apostolic and WoF.

However, it was the Apostolic Movement that was largely behind the Toronto, Brownesville and Lakeland so called "revivals".
