  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Of course. Jesus prayed that the Church be One. Personally, I think he meant one in reality rather than in the abstract sense we have today.
Personally, and Biblically, I believe He meant one in Spirit. ;)

John 17:11
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

How would your Denomination, EO's and Protestants define that?
Another words, how do we all become ONE?

John 17:11
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
““I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. ” (John 17:20–21, NASB95)

One in spirit doesn't live up to Jesus' prayer. One in spirit while we disagree and fight about everything makes Jesus look stupid to the world.

One in spirit doesn't live up to Jesus' prayer.
1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Unity in belief. Diversity in practice. That is how it was in the beginning.

One in spirit while we disagree and fight about everything makes Jesus look stupid to the world.
1 Corinthians 1:26-28
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

if we do not have trouble with God selecting Aaron and his seed as one seat and one chair, and understand Jesus gave Peter oversight of the 11, why do we choke on the one seat, one chair in rome?

If 2 of 4 books say Mary was impregnated by Holy Spirit, and Old Testament says will be a sign to you , a virgin will give birth....

If Moses set up rulers of the congregation, groups of 50-100,1000, etc...why do we choke at the Episcopal form of church government/rulers of the congregation already in place at time of Jesus/Peter

in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, have an image of hades, purgatory...and the chasm between...Jesus descended to take captivity captive, and preach the good news...place still there, whether anyone in it at present or not...

go out and preach the gospel and quit this petty boiler plate inquisition...

Ok, what is sauce for the goose........List errors and inventions/traditions invented by the Papacy aka Roman catholicism. :groupray:

One of mine would be the way Roman catholicism looks at the eucharist.

LLOJ [still waits on chopsticks]

I could list a dozen . But , what's the use . You can have 10 people who were born and raised Catholic with 12 or more years of Catholic education give a list of things that Catholicism taught them . Then 10 people with a few years as Catholics each say that not a single thing on any of the lists is true .

Then , the thread goes on for a while . After it dies out - a while later - another thread pops up .

I guess it's a crime to actually read the official teaching of the Church rather than rely on what Fr. Billy Bob said 30 years ago.:confused::confused::confused::confused:

But those Catholics. They and their anti-christ pope are always trying to fool some gullible soul. The Catechism is a lie and the true beliefs of the luciferian Catholic Church are in the super secret archives.

Give me a break.

They obviously don't based upon the plethora of strawman arguments that are posted every day.

Some Priests and Bishops exceed their appointed authority and teach outside the faith. Is that a surprise? Look at Notre Dame.

Or maybe some people failed to understand. I'm not going to try and pinpoint every individual's specific problem with the Church.

I am simple minded. I look at what the Church teaches in official documents and accept it. I do not look for conspiracy theories within the Church.

Many here on CF seem to subscibe to the Gordian Knot school of Catholic conspiracy. Personally, I think they have been reading too many Dan Brown novels and have lost the faculty of critical thinking.

Except the Chuch does have a consistant and clear faith defined in dogmas, doctrines, et cetera. I have found that young people really don't pay much attention to what they are being taught and it isn't surprising that people years later as adults don't really know much about what the Church teaches.
