  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is thinking overrated?

Is thinking overrated? I've noticed a lot of people have super thought out opinions that take paragraphs and paragraphs to write. Sometimes they spend those paragraphs saying absolutely nothing. Other times they spend paragraphs disclaimer-ing the last paragraphs, which is the only paragraphs they put any real thought into.

Are long drawn out thoughts over-rated? Is it better to say more with less?

Its easy to say more with less words, straight to teh point. Sometimes deeply explained thoughts tend to do something wonderful for the person writing it though. I guess it depends on what you want to say, how you want it to be recieved and who you want to receive it.

I overthink way too much, does my head in but just cant help myself.

It is better to say more with more
than less with less,
but always best
to say more with less

this.

I tend to write big huge things when I'm not really 100% sure what I think about something and have to kind of talk it out to get there. The more confident I am on something, the more precise I can be. Although if it's something I'm really passionate about, I can write page after page and still pretty much be focused and on point...

This is something I admire Inkabink for. She is great about putting it out there in a clear and concise manner without a lot of extra rambling.

Me? I tend to go on and on. I have a personality where I struggle with questioning whether or not I've made myself clear, and so I will say the same thing in about five different ways to get my point across. :sorry:

I also add disclaimers because I don't like to come across as judgmental or hurt people's feelings.

Being more concise...that's a skill I would do well to learn. Hah.

People don't think near enough.

Being able to say things clearly and concisely is an important part of communication, and doing so doesn't mean that a person is thinking any less.

JM

I agree - people don't think enough! That said - yes, you can say the same in less sentences, but some people I feel are more detail-oriented, and not concept oriented with a generalized communication style.

I think some people have a thought process similar to yours - where they express their thoughts and feelings while writing or talking. Nothing wrong with that, and that is what makes the world so wonderful - unique people such as yourself :)

I do take paragraphs and paragraphs to write, but that's just my nautre. You have to realize that it doesn't take me an hour to write those paragraphs. I type about 120 words per minute, and as things pop into my head, so too do they pop out of my fingers.

I suppose some of what I write is "nothingness" in a sense, but that's just me. I'm also fairly verbose and loquacious in person as well. I don't offer up on the internet anything less than I would offer up in person. I don't change who I am for the 'online version'

If people don't like that, they can skip my responses, problem solved :D
