ALBANY — The State Assembly approved legislation on Tuesday night that would make New York the sixth state to allow same-sex marriage — a pivotal vote that shifts the debate to the State Senate, where gay rights advocates and conservative groups alike are redoubling their efforts.

In a sign of how opinion in Albany has shifted on the issue, several members of the Assembly who voted against the measure in 2007 voted in favor of it on Tuesday.

The final vote was 89 to 52, including the backing of five Republicans.

Now it needs to go through the NY State Senate, where it'll probably pass, and NY Gov. Patterson is all in favor of Same sex Marriage, so it looks like this is going to happen in NY in the not too distant future.

Because New York is a microchasm of the nation............

Except that it's not. Come back to me when you get the North Carolina or Florida legislature to pass this.

Not exactly the point. If more states follow, it will be difficult for the remaining states to have an anti gay marriage stance. They'll be seen as intolerant. We've seen this kind of thing before.

The change is coming you realize...

If you want to really impress me, get South Carolina without having it secede. And you know what they say about the third time.

No! Obviously God doesn't want them to be "married." When is America going to realize we'll destroy ourselves until we really follow God's law?
Have you ever thought about the fact that maybe Christians have veered so far off course from the initial intentions God had for this world that maybe THAT is the reason Jesus will finally return and "save us?"

Don't forget inappropriate behavior with animals and objectum sexuality. Once the devil's perversion begins it doesn't stop.
In regards to polygamy and incest, I see no real issue with it on a legal level as long as both (or all) parties are consenting. Do I personally agree with it or understand it? No, but I'm not going to press my personal beliefs on other individuals that may in turn interfere with their happiness.

If YOU don't want or agree with these sort of things, then don't participate with them, but that doesn't give you the right to interfere with their potential rights as a human being and their "pursuit of happiness" which we are all entitled to.

Who says we're entitled to the pursuit of happiness? Man's law? Nothing in God's law says we have the right to be happy. Humans are here to make God happy, not themselves happy. Homosexuality does not make God happy.

Just more evidence that Jesus is coming back soon. The world is becoming more and more corrupt, evil, and perverted. But they will be judged accordingly.

Riight because wanting equality for everyone is so evile! I should have known that when Jesus was preaching love they neighbor he was also preaching against equality.

Ummm, US law says we are. This country is not ruled by God's law. It's ruled by the law of the United States government.

If YOU want to live by God's law, then that is fine with me. That is your choice and your decision, but you shouldn't be forcing that decision onto others.

Isn't the whole concept of this world that God created to make people who have free will and the freedom to choose? If God wanted a world where everyone followed him, he would have made it so. If you want people to follow God's law, then you should show them the way to God, but you shouldn't force it on individuals because that is what you believe as that essentially goes against God's purpose on this earth for us.

God doesn't want a lot of mindless followers who follow him because they are forced to do so, he wants individuals who truly love him and believe his word to be true.

Loving your neighbor doesn't mean that their sin has to be tolerated. Permitting homosexuality isn't promoting equality. It's promoting a perverse sin. Homosexuality is not equal to heterosexuality.

I agree with you mostly, except that just because God gave humans free will doesn't mean that every other human needs to accept or approve of how they act. I know homosexuality is wrong because God says it is. Why should I support a law that goes against what God says? I think we need a change in man's law to fit God's law.
