I am really bummed about economics and politics these days. I feel like we are all being played by some cruel ringmaster. Capitalism seems designed to only make the rich richer, and let the middle class think that they are free to become rich, yet the laws seem designed to prevent that from happening. Usery and bankruptcy laws are a joke, and God forbid that you want to study hard, so you can work hard. Student loans will kill ya with excessive debt:doh: Make mortgage payments on time and be responsible? Forget about it, the foolish get bailed out by the rest of us, which begs the question, Who is the fool?

Dems and Republicans are no different; they are content to watch us fight back and forth about abortion, like who appoints Supreme court justices will make a difference, but the constitution already gives Congress the power to take the issue out of the Supreme courts hands where it does not belong. Congress chooses not to use that power; they would rather see us fight about it for 35yrs instead. They even drag our Church into the fight, pitting brother and sister against eachother.

I am tired of it. I am not some liberal who wants to change everything. I am tired of the pointless fights, and would like to get back to the business of what christianity and the Catholic church is all about. There has to be more of a reason to live than mortgage payments and abortion.

Just my ranting

oh, and I did eat the last of my Vegemite that I had for a while. I am the only person in my family that eats the stuff. They say that Americans don't really like it, but I think it is great for breakfast. Vegemite on an English muffin with butter, toasted. Yummy. gotta have breakfast tea with that also.

But this being America, I can't just go down to the market to buy some more. For some reason they don't sell it here. All they got is this substandard goopy stuff they call Marmite:sick: I gues that'll do till I get some more Vegemite, but it is not as good:sad:

Apparently, the reason they don't have it there is due to the yeast content. It won't pass the FDA or something like that.
How do they feel about imports though cos I'd be happy to send you some jars, I can't imagine being without it...

Vegemite sandwhiches are as popular here as the peanut butter and jelly in the US (I'm going off TV shows with that, I'm not sure if that is actually true...)

LOL- I'm with you- but not on the Vegemite <shiver>, and not on the part aboutnot changing anything....lol! chalk it up to my youthful idealism :)

I dunno--me and the kiddos have been listening to Phil Ochs a whole bunch lately, and it's eerie how 99% of the songs sound like they're about right now, rather than 40 years ago....change the words from Richard Nixon to George Bush and Vietnam to Iraq and you're all set. It's truly like we've made no progress in 40 years....:sigh:and even that we've gone backwards.

Thank goodness there's a piece of pie in the frige waiting for me for after the kids are in bed....

These things used to be more tightly regulated, but then it was decided that the poor weren't been given enough of a break with the way that the regulations were set up. If the banks and mortgage houses assumed all the risks, there is just no way that the high risk loans to those who really couldn't afford to take on a mortgage in the first place would have ever been made.
When lending money becomes a part of social policy though, it is the gravy train for the bankers. Getting money from the government at one percent and lending it again at 6 percent, with the American tax-payer assuming all the risk is any lenders dream.

I doubt the truth of who was for regulating Fanny Mae and who was not will ever really come out though. the sad part is that a trilion dollars of lending later, and the members of the visible minority poor hardly own any more housing than when the legislation was put in place all those years ago.
There is no bang for the tax-payers buck on that one. All the good intentions in the world paved the road to hell for the capitalists with pure gold, and the situation of the poor has changed one single iota.
....

What is Christianity and Catholicism about to you now? Is it still a trade-off between orthodoxy and orthypraxis or are you feeling a little better about the teachings these days?

I am feeling a little better about the teachings these days, but the internet still lends itself to the orthdoxy vs orthopraxis situation, which should not be a dichotomy at all, but sadly is.

on the self labelled othodox side, we have those that warn against deviations from orhtodoxy so much so that it leaves one wondering what exactly orthodoxy stands for, other than being against heresy. If heresy is removed what is left of orthodoxy? This is only the situation that I find on the internet, but thankfully not amongst real life.

On topic analogies would be internet orthodoxy is to Marmite, what real life orthodoxy is to vegemite. Simply refreshing:yum:

I'll send you vegemite if you want Jerome

Thanks, but I see the shipping costs from Australia are very expensive. I would not want to put you out. I am trying to get my local market to import it. Those blokes import Marmite from England, I say that they can just as well import Vegemite from Australia, and do even better:D

You don't like Marmite! :swoon:

But Marmite is just simply wonderful :yum: I've been eating it ever since I was only small.

Here's another American who LOVES Vegemite. When I was a camp counselor, we had several Aussies on staff and I am indebted to them for introducing me to the salty goodness of Vegemite and cheese sandwiches. The Aussies would also razz the two Kiwis on staff who preferred Marmite.

I been saying that Jerome. I was really dillusioned after I saw what went on after Katrina, how each side played politics and the blame game when a real life tragedy happened where ppl lost their lives and all they owned. The government needs to be over thrown and we need to begin from scratch.

Lets face it, there are no good guys. They are a bunch of crooks that do not represent us at all, they represent their own interest. I have no idea why we have tolerated this for decades. A politician will get elected, go in worth about 200,000 and come out worth millions. What the hell? It's the den of iniquity.

Now they want to bail out these banks and after they do, will someone tell me what's going to happen to all these loans? We still have to pay our mortgages, so they are getting bailed out and still will collect on loans.

I'm really POed. After all the hurricanes we have seen here, it's like pulling teeth to get the banks to defer car and house notes for a month or two becuase ppl have been out of work due to a situation that is not their fault, but they turn around and ask tax payers to bail them out of debt that is their own fault. And the fact that the Democrats and Bush are even entertaining bailing them out... you know why? Because all their money is tied up in those banks.

You are finally catching on... but there is an agenda with the liberals who take money from Planned Parenthood and the like to keep making laws, to keep pushing the envelope with the abortions laws. The devil has his hands all in this.

I am tired of it. I am not some liberal who wants to change everything. I am tired of the pointless fights, and would like to get back to the business of what christianity and the Catholic church is all about. There has to be more of a reason to live than mortgage payments and abortion.

Abortion is serious sin that we need to fight against. The devil's hands are all in this fight. The rest, I could care less about in the end. I know God will provide for us but abortion seriously offends Him and our problems, I know, is a chastisement for us allowing this to happen.

But I'm glad you realize that putting faith in politics and politicians is an insane thing to do. It can in no way change us or save us. The only thing that can change and save us is putting our faith in Christ and His gospel.

Just my ranting
