Ok guys, this is kinda stupid, but I'd appreciate some advice. There's two games I want to play (or one of the two). One is World of Warcraft, and the other is Warhammer Online.

The character I want to play in Warhammer Online is called the Witch Hunter. The problem is well, the Witch Hunter is like the old Spanish Inquisition fellows. He carries around a pistol and rapier and basically kills witches and other bad guys. Witch Hunters are somewhat excessive in their methods, and they use "holy water", and other relics. Here is the character quote: "These poor, simple folk - too fearful or too dull-witted to see the vulgarity and evil in their own midst. They wail and complain about my...uncompromising methods, but who among you can say that hanging half a village is too high a price to pay for the assurance that corruption has been exposed and destroyed this day?" (Personally I think that's a sweet quote, but I digress...) So my question is, while when it comes to violence and some of that stuff is just fiction, is playing essentially an old school inquisitor with all the superstition, relics, and such, too much? Or is it still just fiction, and I should just not worry too much?

Now World of Warcraft is a little easier on my nerves game wise (and is the game I'd like to play most). My three characters are a Rogue, a Hunter, and a Shaman. The Hunter is essentially a guy who uses guns and bows and has a pet. The Rogue is a ninja who stealths around and uses swords and daggers, The Shaman is a guy that uses magical totems, can shoot lighting bolts, can heal people, and can cast other spells. Nothing really bad taken as fiction. But my problem with this game is that I have two accounts for it, I play on one, and my brother plays on the other, but both accounts are under my name. In the terms of agreement (which I pressed "I agree" to without reading like everyone else does) however, it states that only the person whose name is on the account can play on the account. Had I known this would bother me ahead of time I would have made sure my bros account had his name on it, and mine had my name on it. But it's too late, my brother is not willing to re-level characters (which takes alot of time). Is this a big deal? If they catch my bro they'll just cancel that account, no big deal. No one's getting hurt, we still have two accounts between the two of us instead of sharing one account and essentially stealing one monthly fee from the company. So is it a big deal that my name is on his account, and I agreed to their license agreement?

So what do you guys think? Can I still play World of Warcraft? Is the Witch Hunter that bad? Which game would you go with?

Peter this is a Christian Advice forum to give Biblical advice.

Now what you are dabbling in can also be causing 70% of your problems with confusion and doubt in regards to your salvation question.

Your question should be on another forum, and NOT Christian Advice.

Take care, and be blessed in Jesus' Name.

Now being a Christian, we also need to view the powers of darkness that is subtly hidden behind these sorts of games.

There is magic in this game: from auras to ranged damaging ice novas, resurrection spells, etc, which isn’t of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, we all know the “wiles of the enemy” and the “snares of the fowler”, and such game are set up by Satan to trap the gullible and immature Christians, and even if some say that it’s part and parcel of the game and that it’s harmless, then they will never know the truth that will set them free (John 8:32). Of course these things appear to be harmless in the eyes of those who are already seduced and deceived by the powers of darkness.

Christians who participate in this game need to be aware of the spiritual consequences.

There is nothing that glorifies our Lord Jesus Christ, but the powers of darkness of the different species, ghosts, and death. When you die then you become a ghost (an unclean spirit) and your object is to run back to your body to be revived. (NOT BIBLICAL and NOT CHRISTIAN and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!)

Now even if anyone suggests that it’s harmless and okay for mature Christians, and then it intrigues me how a mature Christian, who is conversant with His Word, and the powers of darkness, would get involved with the “snare of the fowler”?

I'll address the technical before I hit the Christian questions at the bottom.

For WoW, if he's going to do something that gets you banned, call techsupport and sort it out. If not, don't worry about it.

Now on to the real questions.

So my question is, while when it comes to violence and some of that stuff is just fiction, is playing essentially an old school inquisitor with all the superstition, relics, and such, too much? Or is it still just fiction, and I should just not worry too much?
and

You are asking several questions at once that have no easy answer.

First, about Warhammer. It is a late medieval era full of superstition and war. There are plenty of fantasy races such as the dwarves and elves, but also other races such as the ratmen Skaven and the lizardmen of Lustria. In one way it is the forces of good against the forces of evil, but it is taken to a darker tone that normal. There are four main Chaos gods, Nurgle (decay), Tzeentch (deception), Slaanesh (decadence), and Khorne (carnage) with several other minor evils and several good ones such as Sigmar.

The witch hunter you talk of is part of the cult of Sigmar. It fights these and many other evils such as the undead. But with such a dark world, darker things are considered normal for us. The game puts shades of grey constantly.

So here are my questions for you.

In this activity, how will it bring you closer to God? What spiritual benefit will it offer you? These are the two most important as a Christian. But sometimes we all need to relax, so here is one more question.

How much time would you spend on this? Remember it can easily become an addiction and if it is taking from your time with God or your family and friends, then it is way too much.

Elija, no one is getting involved with the "snare of the fowler". There is NO magic in this game. When in the video game an ice barb or whatever are cast, is there actually a spell being cast? No. It's a video game. You press a button, electrical stuff happens in the computer, and the pixels on the screen produce the image of a character casting a spell. There are no actual ghosts, no auras, no spells, etc. Just pixels colored differently by the cpu.

Now if these types of games made me start doing actual sorcery in real life, now that would be bad. Other than that it's just a computer game. Admittedly I'm not real good at knowing what glorifies God. Is God glorified from you enjoying the challenge of competing against other players, or enjoying working in conjunction with others to achieve a difficult task, or having your imagination stimulated by colorful and unique characters and lands?

Peter I am an old spiritual warrior, and have many scars to prove it. I've heard that story before from others who think like you. Yes, they suffered the consequences of what they all thought is harmless.

I will take it no further, you have been warned.

Take care.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

I know things got a bit off track but I do agree with Elijah.

I was into world of warcraft for years. Mostly before I came to God. I tried playing again after I dedicated myself to Jesus and I made a warlock. Lets just say that only lasted a week lol..

Holy Spirit convicted me and I gave it up. Thats me of coarse, God has plans for me. If I were you I would ask Him if He wants you to play it, ask Him to convict you. Problem with MMO games as much as I love them ( i really do lol) they take so much time away, they become addicting and you find yourself having less time with God.

I wanna tell you about this dream Jesus gave me. I was into FFXI and Id play for hours and hours just having fun. weeks later Jesus gave me a dream He shaved His head (totally not cool!) and said to me "I do not like how things are going" Now I donno if you guys read the OT but head shaving was not good. people used to shave their heads when they were grieving/mourning. Jesus was so upset that I picked video games over Him... Breaks my heart..

Like I said that was me, and thats why Im asking if you would ask Him if its cool ;)

As for the terms of agreement, you made a mistake we all gamers do, noone reads that huge agreement lol.. But you could either transfer the accounts I think it has a small charge or you can make another character on another account. or you can just play it. read through it and really see what it says. Id say if its against the agreement you signed (you clicked accept) than id just transfer it to another account.

I too have played FFXI for hours upon hours. It started cutting into the time I read the bible and disrupting my morning and evening prayers (get up and go right to the computer or play too long and just go to bed forgetting my prayers).

Glorifying God is keeping His commandments and doing His will (helping the poor for example), attending worship services, reading of the Bible and offering up prayers, among other things that puts focus on Him and His Word. If the games are taking away from that then something is wrong.

Competing in a game is not a problem, nor is spending time playing. But too much or in an un-Christian way is.

Yep you gotta have all the subjobs ;)

And all the good gear and don't forget the time spent running around getting strange items. Oh and if your LS doesn't have but needs a certain job you are even halfway interested in, you may have to level it fully. And and and......:destroyed:

The Rogue is a ninja who stealths around and uses swords and daggers, The Shaman is a guy that uses magical totems, can shoot lighting bolts, can heal people, and can cast other spells. Nothing really bad taken as fiction. But my problem with this game is that I have two accounts for it, I play on one, and my brother plays on the other, but both accounts are under my name. In the terms of agreement (which I pressed "I agree" to without reading like everyone else does) however, it states that only the person whose name is on the account can play on the account.

So just get the name changed under your brothers. He will need a credit card tho, However.. You can either:

a) get a game card (im sure they sell them by you as well)

b) Get a prepaid credit card, the gift card ones, you can just keep refilling it.

Id go with b myself but its up to you :)
