Well I received some rather bad news about Uber L from one of his friends back about the time I ws leaving. The friend asked me to pray for him. Uber Lutheran was confirmed to have anal cancer according to his friend. I think he was in his 50s at the time. He was also an advocate for gay marriage, and he professed to have a monogamous gay relationship.
Many fellow Christians and I tried to warn him about his risky behavior with his trusted gay partner.
Anal sex with men is no more of a risk factor for cancer in men than anal sex with women is for women, and even oral sex and intercourse are risk factors for HPV (Which most people have laying dormant), which can develop into cancer (In different areas, obviously). So is eating foods cooked on grills (I'm not making that up, look it up) and eating meat in general.
I'm heterosexual, but I'm not going to become a vegetarian anytime soon.
I doubt many men having sex with their wives and vice-versa are going to give sex up entirely for a slightly reduced cancer risk either (I wouldn't).
Life is a risk factor for death. It happens to everyone eventually. It's very sad, of course, but quality of life is important, too. And having a good loving monogamous relationship can be a big boost to the quality of your life if it's the right person.
I feel very bad about what happened to Uber Lutheran, but I am not going to blame his cancer on his gay marriage. I don't remember him, but I doubt he did either. It sounds like he was a good influence on a lot of people. I'm glad he found love in his life before the end (If what you heard is accurate).
As Christians, we should embrace people the way God made them and support monogamous self-giving relationships and marriages.
