:sarcasm on: so, if the literal interpretation of the bible says we are NOT to create images, of which every person is an image of God, then by reductio ad absurdum, we are not allowed to make babies, because babies are by simple extrapolation, also images of God. However, God also commands us to go out a mulitply. So, therefore the bible is self-contradictory and it should be disregarded in its entirety. :end sarcasm:to add to Christina's >>

Legends and more legends...The Image of Edessa was made when Jesus wiped his face on a cloth because a neighboring king wanted to see Jesus. the painter didn't do it so Jesus pressed his face to a cloth and it stayed on it. Saint Luke is credited with writing the first Icon of Mary from life.
Okay Christina if you say so...Yet when you greet a brethren with a holy kiss, you are indeed, venerating an icon.

I do understand and fear for those involved in the use of them...Simon,
I do not understand how you still do not understand the use of Icons in Orthodoxy.
Made by HIM not by man...We are all Icons of our lord as we are made in his image. As A Sinner has all ready explained.
These "icons" are more alive than those you greet here on earth. We are all One.

Christina
Interesting. Aren't printed words on a page a form of image? I mean, aren't the individual letters representative of something? Therefore, the bible is a collection of images (ikonia). Thanks for pointing out the fruitless, vain, and immoral use of images. I'll get to burning all of my books, including the bible, ASAP. That means that I will HAVE to rely on Tradition for my spiritual nourishment.I do understand and fear for those involved in the use of them...
Backing everything I do in Christ, YOU BET my posts show this, that's a compliment! In your posts you've shown us that you require scriptural backing for everything you do

what would you do if there was no Bible then? What did the Church do for 300 somthing years before there was a Biblical canon?Backing everything I do in Christ, YOU BET my posts show this, that's a compliment!
afterall one is called to love the Lord our God with all our heart mind and soul.
But nothing I ever mentioned would indicate that I was not given a functional mind, plus to attach body functions to this to top it off is distasteful and offensive.
I know this wasn't directed at me, but what the heck is wrong with requiring Scriptural backing?
