Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

and most assuredly I ask the same for you. But just so you fully understand...I was born-again, then baptized. I was born a sinner....was re-born by God's grace, and as we all, I remain a sinner. Simply being baptized or having holy water splashed on you does not lead to salvation. If any one calls them self saved by baptism only then it might be a good thing to stay in the water to quench the flames. No where in God's Word does it say that baptism is salvation...nowhere.

You have misread my post. I never said that baptism comes first or that it saves a person but it comes AFTER becoming a Christian. :) Baptism is an outward showing to others what happened inside a person when they became a Christian. :) If a person doesn't repent and accept Christ as their Savior then getting "baptized" or "sprinkle" is only a form of just getting "wet" for nothing.

You're forgiven :)
We all misread things at times. If I had $1 for every time I did, I would be rich. :D

I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior in July of 1997 I believe. I was a very strong Christian until about 17, then some doubts started lingering, then I became a Christian in name only, I was essentially one of those "all paths are valid paths to God, it doesn't matter what you believe, etc" kind of people for a while. Then I converted to Catholicism in 2006. I had a rocky relationship with the Catholic Church for the bulk of two years. There were just somethings I could never wrap my mind around. I mean my grandmother was the person who the Lord put in my life that really showed me Christianity, and she was the staunchest Baptist you will ever meet. Also my parents are Baptists, my wife and her family are Baptists. So I've had Baptist theology ingrained in my mind from birth. So I guess that may have lead to my internal objections to Catholicism. However, I stuck with Catholicism through thick and thin because I thought my doubts just came from my own weakness, so I clung to everything Catholic. However, in the past few months I just couldn't get comfortable spiritually. I prayed to the Lord vigorously to show me the light. There was a storm raging in my soul daily, I prayed for the calming of the storm. Well about three weeks ago the Lord lead me into the doors of a local Baptist church. Since then I've been much happier. The internal conflict has quieted, I feel the joy of the Lord. I've taken to reading the Scriptures daily like I did in my younger days. The Lord has truly answered my prayers and blessed me. I know the denomination you worship in doesn't matter as long as you keep Jesus as your Lord and Savior, but there were certain things in the RCC I didn't believe to be right in my heart of hearts. I don't want to bash anyone's faith so I'll go no farther.
I just praise the Lord for all He has done for me my whole life.

Amen brother!

It took me a long time to understand that my journey is His journey, it's not about me, it's about Him. God was never drawing me to anything other than Himself. We get restless when we seek after a feeling or an experience for ourselves, I can relate to your story.

Yes I do, but do we really know what it means when the scriptures declare that no one can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

We can see in the Bible where the Old Testament believers "call upon the name of the Lord," as a reference to God.Literally, in Hebrew this is "call upon the name of Jehovah [YHWH]." This phrase with its variations "calling upon..." and "called upon..." etc., occurs eleven times in the Old Testament in the King James Version.

"Jehovah" is an English(ized) form of the Hebrew four letters YHWH from which we get God's name "Jehovah" or "Yahweh." Most modern English Bibles translate the four letters "YHWH" into the word "Lord." This is done because no one knows the true pronunciation of God's name and also because the Jews wanted to avoid violating the sacredness of God's name if they pronounced it incorrectly. Nevertheless, in every instance of this usage "Lord" in the Hebrew phrase, "call upon the name of the Lord," it is the Hebrew "YHWH" in the original and is always in reference to God and to God, the everlasting God, alone.
Around 250 B.C., the Hebrew Old Testament was translated into Greek by Jewish scholars. This translation is called the Septuagint and is known by the designation LXX. The Hebrew phrase to "call upon the name of the Lord [YHWH]," of course, was also translated into Greek. For example, in Joel 2:32 it says, "...whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD [YHWH] shall be delivered..." This Greek translation in the LXX is "hos an epikalesatai to onoma kuriou," literally, "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord."

When we look at this phrase in the Old Testament, we see that "to call upon the name of the Lord" was used to designate prayer to God in 1 Kings 18:24,37 and Psalm 116:4. Please consider the following verses from the KJV.
  • 1 Kings 18:24, "And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD [YHWH]: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God."
    • 1 Kings 18:37, "Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD [YHWH] God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. 38Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench."
  • Psalm 116:4, "Then called I upon the name of the LORD [YHWH] ; O LORD [YHWH], I beseech thee, deliver my soul."
Clearly, the phrase is used of God in reference to prayer to Him. The phrase is never used in reference to anyone else other than God. Remember that "call upon the name of the Lord [YHWH]" in Hebrew was translated into Greek by the Jews in the LXX and they rendered "YHWH" into the Greek "kurios," which means "lord." This phrase was then used of Jesus in 1 Cor. 1:2.
  • "Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours," (1 Cor. 1:2).
    • "...call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ..." NASB, ASV, ASV1901,
    • "...call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ..." KJV, NJKV, NIV, RSV,
    • "...calling upon the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours," NWT.
      • NOTE: In the Greek, it is literally, "Call upon the name of the Lord OF US, Jesus Christ. This is why the English says, "Call upon the name of OUR Lord." Therefore, the phrase is the same.
This is clear evidence that Jesus is called YHWH since the same phrase used to address God is also used to address Jesus.

Below is a chart that transliterates the Greek into English phonetic sounds so you can check the Greek for yourself in the Old Testament Greek Septuagint and the New Testament Greek.

Isaiah 45-21-23

21 Tell and bring forth your case; Yes, let them take counsel together. Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is none besides Me.

22 "Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

Isaiah 9:6

6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

John 20:26-28

26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!" 27 Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing." 28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"

I just jumped into this looooong post and haven't (obviously) read all the posts. But I know this:

Jesus IS my Lord and Savior. He is the life everlasting, and has literally saved my life.

I'll NEVER EVER deny that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.

I might have moments of weakness in Christ, but I'll never deny Him. He saved me. That is something I can never forget.

The truth of Jesus as Lord is undeniable for those who read the Bible and understand it.

I haven't read the entire thread but to answer the question: Here goes....

I was "born" into a Christian home. Mother & father attended the Salvation Army in New York City where we grew up. If the church was open, we were there. The only time we didn't have to go was if we were in hospital or the morgue.

After moving upstate NY, we started to attend a small independent Baptist Church. There were not many people attending this church but the Pastor was a great teacher and a wonderful Godly man.

I was the only son; with 5 sisters and I was also the "baby" of the family. As each of us grew and reached the age of making our own decisions, we each moved away from the church. We had learned all the Bible stories of the 3 Hebrew boys, Daniel, David and all the rest; but we knew the facts not experienced the faith.

Each of us went our separate way; got jobs, got married, had children, raised our families outside of the church.

Myself? I quit school, joined the US Coast Guard and proceeded to destroy my life. By the time I joined up, I was a smoker and a social drinker. I was also in trouble with the law frequently. I "graduated" into a heavy smoker, alcoholic and drug user. Financial troubles excaberated the problems I was having. I got into gambling, hoping to "win big" and help me out of my woes. I was facing several years behind bars for criminal issues.

Hanging out with drug addicts and prostitutes helped me get involved deeper into the "pleasures" of sin. Dating prostitutes and eventually becoming involved with the "profession" myself along with experimenting with homosexuality was about the deepest I could go. Suicide was the only option.

I attempted to kill myself on several occaions but never found the nerve to go through with it. I ended up in "hospitals" on two occasions.

My life improved slightly in the late 70's and I vacationed in Newfoundland Canada, where my father was born. In '78, I met my future wife and in 1980 we married; then she moved to NY with me. We both began attending the small Baptist church. In 1986, we moved to Newfoundland to raise our family (our first son was born in '81 in Conneticut).

In Newfoundland, we attended the Salvation Army sporatically. There were only two churches in our little town but we chose the Army because we both had attended before. Life improved more. I started to "settle down"; I still smoked, drank occasionally, but stopped drugs and left the "past" behind.

I realized that of my five sisters and I; each of us eventually made our way back to the Lord, one at a time. Of course, having praying parents made the difference.

In 1990 everything finally "came to a head". That year in mid January, I finally laid all my burdens on the alter before Christ. I asked Him into my heart and asked for forgiveness for all the sins of my past. I quickly learned that He died not just for my past sins but for all of them. My past "facts" finally became faith. I finally received the "heart knowledge" to go along with the "head knowledge".

Saying that "life is just peachy ever since" would be a lie. I've had my ups and down, ins and outs; but I have learned to trust in the Lord. I stand on the promises He has made to me.

I will never leave thee...

I will provide for you....

I will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able to bear...

No man shall pluck thee from my hand....

All the promises He made are true! Those and all the rest!

I eventually became a member of the "Army" and became involved with Men's MInistries, Sunday School and youth programs. I also realized that God has given me a vocal talent I never knew I had. My own children (2 boys and a girl) attended church with us. But as they grew, they moved away from the church (the past comes back to haunt you??) But my wife and I trust and believe that God will turn them around, IN HIS TIME.

We recently moved again to Alberta for work opportunities. There is no active Salvation Army here but we were led to a wonderful Baptist Congregation just up the road. Our faith grows daily. We are still not perfect but God has promised to be with us, even to the end of the world.

We hope to move back "home" to Newfoundland within the next year or two. But whatever the Lord decides, we will faithfully follow

^ that was an amazing story :)
Is it alright to say I don't know? I go to church, I've started reading my Bible and I love talking to God, but it's just that sometimes my faith wavers, like I read something and I think maybe all this isnt true, but then I always immediately counteract the thought.
I like to think that I have, but I don't think that I have completely...does that make sense:scratch:
