If a good person does them for good reasons, to help people in beneficial ways without harming anyone.

How else would you define "good"?
Well, that's my point. I can understand a person who believes in witchcraft and necromancy supporting the HP series and exposing young children to them. Because they see no harm in witchcraft believing it to be either totally harmless or only harmful if used with harmful intent.

However, if you are a Christian or claim to be a Christian then I don't understand the support for it because it is Anti-Christ and strictly forbidden by the teachings of the Old and New Testament. It's depicted as calling upon demonic forces and turning away from the one true God.

How is it depicted as a good thing or a bad thing? It is simply depicted.
Witchcraft is depicted as a desirable craft to master. So desirable there are whole schools devoted to it's mastery and practice. It is depicted as something very desirable to learn and master. It's depicted as something the very young should study.

But that's a contradiction. You can't turn away from God, where would you turn to? There is no-one else!

There is only One True God so everything both magical and non-magical comes from Him.

You can't get so-called magical forces from another divine being as there is ONLY ONE being, God.

To say demonic forces exist is to say that there is more than one Power in the Universe, more than one God...

In the books, the only people who can "master" magic are those who ALREADY HAVE IT.

How can it be made any clearer? Only those people BORN WITH magic powers can use magic.

There is no other Almighty God who rules over all.

There is only One True God so everything both magical and non-magical comes from Him.

God is the originator of all things. However, as you have pointed out things can be used for good or ill

You can't get so-called magical forces from another divine being as there is ONLY ONE being, God.

Yes, you can get power from other beings then God. Demonic spirits are real, and do influence people. Satan is the god of this present world system.

Not according to scripture. Jesus acknowledged demonic forces and said of some that they were the devil's children.

And if you're not born with the power what are you? A Muggle. Hardly appealing. Can you really argue these books don't make witchcraft appear exciting and interesting, especially to children?

K... but what does that change? Young kids still went out in droves hunting down pagan sites to learn more about witchcraft & had interests in spellcasting whether the movie depicted you had to posess it first or not.

The fact that the movie was teaching it as 'factual' fiction while kids did something contrary to that IRL actually harms your case to support fantasy as being harmless. If fantasy was harmless, the kids watching that would believe they had to have it already; but instead, they sought to get it in real life when they didn't have it.
Kids obviously acted on their real impulses and desires despite the 'fictional teachings' of the storyline.

I'd also like to know if kids wondered if they naturally had this gift of sorcery within them or not. If they ever asked or explored that within themselves. Again, not a real good thing for a so called Christian writer to implant into the heads of innocent kids to lead them in this direction.

Harry Potter and his wizard friends lie, steal, break rules, disobey authority figures, and take revenge. Harry Potter also makes and uses drug potions, including the psychedelic drug thujone, which has been banned in the United States since 1915. The wizards practice Hindu-type meditation "to clear the Inner Eye." There is swearing and violence.

Above is an accusation made against the Potter books from another site. Are these allegations true?

I guess my whole issue with these books (aside from Christians supporting the use of witchcraft) is the target audience. If the people depicted were say college students at least the target audience would be adults and would be far less likely to be influenced to experiment with witchcraft.

To me it really seems unfair to expose kids to this stuff.

what? Have you not read the Bible (Ex. 7) where we're told how Pharaoh's magicians had major powers and Moses' miracles came from God, the powers of Pharaoh's magicians were not from God --- unless God tries to outdo Himself and fight His own prophets.

Satan was able to bring boils and wipe out Job's family in Job 1 when His faith was tested.

The book of Daniel, it took God's angel 2 wks to get to Daniel due to fighting other spirits in the heavenlies. They aren't harmless wimps.

The Bible from cover to cover tells us Satan is able to perform signs & [lying] wonders, including during the Tribulation period in Revelation (which will decieve people).

Satan & his servants have power; plenty of it and it's ALL used against God's Kingdom & people.

Yeah, Muggles, people without witchcraft are depicted as dullards. So a child isn't going to want to emulate the dullard is he/she?
*puts on a dunce cap & sits in the corner with a cookie*
lol :p
Everybody wants to be a dullard!! heh:doh: :sigh:

Only magic people use the word "muggle".

Like the way only white people used to use the word "negro".
huh?? black people don't use the "n" word? You may want to get out into the world around you a little more... or get yourself some rap music these days.

Then how can you trust anything is the work of God and not Satan?

How do you know that Satan didn't deceive whoever wrote Leviticus, or that it really was witches the Bible talked about, and not demons in disguise, working to discredit those whom God blessed with powers?

If Satan is as oh-so-powerful as you say, how can you trust anything and not know that your heart and mind has been fooled, and that the things you're convinced about were actually Satan's lies all along?

That is disgusting on so many levels. How dare you even think to compare the imaginary to an issue that is so deeply felt and REAL in this culture.

 What the ****?!

Hahahaha! No, seriously. Whoever wrote THAT was divining their information from a toilet bowl.
"Do you see that little reference to "wormwood"? The plant, wormwood, contains thujone, an hypnotic drug, banned by the FDA since 1915 [Christian News, "Latest Potter Book Meets Cautionary Response From Christians, July 17, 2000] ; further, wormwood is used to make Absinthe, a hallucinogenic liquor. Therefore, the drug to which Rowling makes reference is very real, and is so dangerous the FDA has banned it -- to this day, it is banned!"

Above is what was also written in the site attempting to debunk the HP series. Are these allegations simply made up? If so why? It doesn't make sense.

Used to, back in the days when racism was commonplace before the equal rights movements.

No, it isn't.

Foods or beverages that contain Artemisia species, White Cedar, oak moss, tansy or Yarrow must be thujone-free.[12] Other herbs that contain thujone have no restrictions. For example, sage and sage oil (which can be 50%+ thujone) are on the Food and Drug Administration's list of substances generally recognized as safe. [13] Recently, the laws against absinthe have been relaxed in the U.S. as there is now a thujone-containing absinthe that can be legally imported.
