In honor of Daffodilly's Sixteenth Birthday I am hosting this contest with her.
Some may know Daffodilly better as Joanna or simply Jo.

It is not just a simple dressup contest...
It's also a place to fellowship and wish her a happy birthday.
It's a place to let others know what a wonderful young lady Joanna is.
I suspect anyone that has interacted with her already knows how sweet she is.

When I asked her what she would like to see for a contest this was her reply:
I don't do New Year's resolutions,
but I do like to take stock of things and set goals for the year on or right around my birthday.
It would be kind of nice to have people post a Scripture or other piece of good advice as part of their entry.
Maybe dress in a way that reflects their advice or just dress "sweetly".

The contest starts now. Her birthday is Wednesday the 28th.
Contest ends Thursday, Nov 29th at midnight (EST).
Judging (by family members) will follow.

It would seem you and your dear parents get along real well.
And that you do indeed spend both quality and quantity time together.

I found this blog entry about someone else's daughter turning sixteen.
Thought I would post it to bring home the importance of both quality and quantity time...

The Daughter of the House turned 16 today, which seems incredible but is undeniably true. A lot of people dread the teen years, and probably with justification. I used to be one of them, and I had good reason to be. I was working a lot of hours and when I got home I did not go the extra mile and spend any serious amount of time with her. When I got home, I paid a little attention to her but generally did my own thing. That was a mistake that caused our family a lot of misery and is one of the biggest regrets of my life. Here’s the thing - if you don’t have a relationship with your child, by the time they get to be a teenager their life, and yours, will be a misery. “Quality time” is a myth. Quantity matters. Turn off the TV and talk to them, take a walk around the block, do anything but make sure you engage them, and give them your full, undivided attention. If they resist, persist. We were fortunate that God rescued our family when He did. We got into a good church that made all the difference. Instead of having artificial barriers between parents and youth, where the youth go to each other or to the youth pastor with their problems, the relationship between parents and youth is encouraged and tight relationships are the norm. What I learned is that more than anything my daughter needed me to be a parent, and when I finally stepped up to the plate, I found that the teenage years are something to be enjoyed, not feared. This is the kind of young woman I am blessed with:

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
(1 Timothy 4:12)

I thank God for her every day.

I'll be back a little later to take screenshots.

It was easy to do this for Joanna because she is such a special young lady.

To Daffodilly:

We come from different countries with different cultures and norms. But, what I would like to share with you is something I have learned when I was your age.

It mattered what you choose, what you believe is important, what you think is right. It is in these formative years that a young lady like you, builds her foundation, principles, faith... As for me, growing in faith, having the support of your family, friends are key things to have a healthy spiritual life...

As it is somewhat a must to keep a very fit physical appearance in your years, spiritual health is the defining key. What is a fit/attractive body worth if your spirit is weak? Priorities change as you grow old, but one thing should never change in your list of priorities, your Number One Priority..and I believe that you know what that is (rather Who He is)... Keep it (rather Him) on the top of your list and all else will be added unto you, as the scripture says...

Have a Blessed 16th Birthday, Daffodilly!

OK, I'll keep that advice in mind.

I'm in no rush to get my license.
I'm sure I'll do fine, but I'm kind of nervous about driving.........
Probably just need experience through practice (and all the inconsiderate drivers off the roads) and you'll be fine.

Jo

My advice to you is just remember the verses and things you have on your page....

Praying to be more like Him...

* Be joyful in hope * patient in afflictions * faithful in prayer. * Romans 12:12

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Phil. 4:4

Sadly, you know the last two more than most people would in a lifetime... But it's not just because of those things that I think you're a wonderful person who will grow into someone even wonderfuller ;) :D Nope - it's also how you encourage others, bless others, your heart, and yes - your relationship with your Mom and Dad, how you've played Bible games in the car on the way to church... at 15! :) That's wonderful  Things you do with the youth etc... There are lots of things which are great about you! :)

So, just draw closer and closer and closer to Him and you'll have strength to stand against temptation, follow the right path and never go wrong! :)

God bless you greatly in this coming year Jo

I hope I've embarrassed you sufficiently ^_^ :D  If not, I'll post again ;)
