What is it's political environment like?
We use the Westminister system of government - a bicameral system, with the judiciary, the government and the executive.
There are two main parties - Labor (slightly more left) and the Liberal/National Coalition (slightly more right) but both pretty central, plus the Greens, the Democrats and Independents. In the Upper House there are those 6 parties, plus lots of special interest parties who run but never seem to get elected.
Unlike America, the Federal Government is much more important than the State governments, who are in tunr more important than the Local governments.
WE DO NOT VOTE FOR JUDGES, OR POLICE, OR PROSECUTORS. (And there's no plea bargaining either, fyi)
What carrier oppertunities are big there in the management and tech fields?
??? Not sure what the question means. But there are plenty of big companies and plenty of R and D happening...
Are there Eastern Catholic Churches there?
Yes. But it does depend on where you live as to how far you have to drive (But based on your previous question I
m guessing you won't be moving to Woop Woop)
How hard is it to move there and start a new life from the USA?
Um... never tried it myself... but assuming you get your visas and everything sorted the actual move should be fairly easy. We are similar enough that you'll be able to find your way around without too much trouble.
The biggest problem all Americans have is that they are... well.... American. Land of the free, home of the brave, we're the greatest country in the world sort of thing. Australian's are laid back, easygoing types fro the most part, but we do love to take tall poppies down a peg or two. And I'm sorry to say it, but you guys are really easy targets. I've no idea what it is exactly, but you poor things are (generally) so uninformed about the rest of the world. It's frightening. And you don't understand our sense of humour, which makes taking the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] even easier.
In all seriousness, if you're willing to learn about our culture, I'm sure you'll do fine.
Butyou'd better bring your own sugar. We don't put sugar in our food like you do.
And you better brace yourself for minimum wages.
And universal healthcare (though I think you need to be at least a permanent resident to qualify for this)
And a REAL social security system.
What is the cost of living like and can one live comfortablely without being part of the dirty business or political world?
Definitely yes. 'Course it depends on your definition of comfortable.
What are the freedom levels like?
Ummm... what do you mean?
Let's get a biggie out of the way first:
NO GUNS!!!! DON"T BRING THEM WITH YOU. DON'T EXPECT TO CARRY ONE. DON'T EXPECT TO EVEN OWN ONE WITHOUT A GUN LICENCE, A LOCKABLE GUN SAFE AND A MEMBERSHIP TO YOUR LOCAL PISTOL CLUB, WHICH IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU'D BE ABLE TO USE IT. IF IT HAS THE WORD "AUTOMATIC" ANYWHERE IN THE NAME, JUST GIVE UP NOW.
Our government has more of sense of humour than yours.
ASIO is MUCH less paranoid than the CIA.
What else do you want to know?
How are immigrants accepted there?
Generally very well. Particularly once they realise they've moved to the best country in the world (except maybe for New Zealand - low be it spoken.)
