So I'm driving through town yesterday between visiting clients - about lunchtime - I'm hungry and I notice a hotdog/suasage stand up on the left and I think yummmmmy... perfect.:yum:

So I enter the left lane to head there to grab a dog to eat.

But just b4 I turn I notice the sign on the side of the cart says "BIKINI WEENIE". Then I notice the girl working the cart is wearing nothing but a really skimpy bikini - and believe me she was hot(and no - not from working the cart).

So I ended up driving past and going to Wendy's instead. Although by this time I was really looking forward to that dog for lunch - but I just did not want to put myself in that situation.

So what do you think? Would you have gone to the cart and got the hot dog? That's what I wanted - really(a hot dog I mean).

Do you think this sort of marketing is wrong?

If that would cause you to stumble, then you did the right thing by not going there.
Some guys have different capacities for this stuff, and could have gotten the hot dog without having her bikini lead them into temptation.

Not even the hottest of bikini clad coeds could get me to eat a hotdog. Or Wendy's. I don't have a problem with the method in question (in fact it sounds like a great business plan - low overhead, guaranteed word-of-mouth, you're selling a product that everybody already knows is no good so quality isn't a concern) but I doubt I'd succumb to this type of marketing. Then again, I live about 1 minute from the beach, where I could see that sort of thing times a few hundred every weekend day in summer - and I only bother to go to the beach like 2 or 3 times a year.

Ah, that girl. She's turned up on Canadian entrepreneur shows, trying to get people to invest in her "business". I think she's just found a gimmick that will sell hot dogs. Her premise is, "Guys can't resist a girl in a bikini!" And that's all it is - a gimmick. Not much more to the business than that.

You did the right thing by continuing on, if the situation would have caused you to stumble. Better to keep your soul safe than lead it down dark halls.

You absolutely did the right thing.

Besides, if you order the Wendys without mayo and hold the fries, it is a FAR healthier lunch than a hot dog. And you know what? I am not really joking. I think that taking care of the body God gave you, by deliberately choosing a healthier lunch rather than a piece of junk food that you suddenly crave just because you saw the advert, is just as moral a choice as avoiding the bikini-clad girl. I think you should think of this aspect too, next time you feel hungry and need to choose where to stop for lunch. Moral choices are not only about sex.

If she loses more business than whe would gain through this type of marketing, then it is wrong.

But there is nothing wrong with a girls in bikinis in the summer time.

And there's nothing wrong with girls who look hot.

Good for her for showing some moxie and starting her own business. Before Walmart, there was the senior Walton selling his hot dogs from a cart.

Ooooh, that is the most beautiful textbook case-study for moral relativism that I have read in a long time!

CW, analyse your statement a little. Especially your use of "right" and "wrong" and what it implies about the existence, or lack thereof, of objective morality.

St. Paul talks about how meat sacrificed to idols is the same as meat not sacrificed to idols because an idol is really nothing more then a hunk of wood and metal, but if it causes a fellow Christian to stumble because they think you got a thing for idols then it is bad. I look at this as the same thing, nothing wrong with a girl in a bikini, especially on the beach or in the summer but if people think you are only going there to see a hot girl and not get a tasty hot dog then it might make people think we are hypocrites. I think you did the right thing.

I haven't got a problem with bikinis in the summer time. Sorry. In a church, sure that would be innappropriate, but at a weenie stand, c'mon.
If anything it is funny.

And I haven't got a problem with a little bit of good ole capitalist initiative either. The wealth generated by a Bill Gates through Microsoft has enriched the lives of a lot more people than his philanthropy ever will. Mr Walton of Walmart fame has done more to freeing the people of China by giving them a market for their products than have all the moralists that look down their noses at him.

I do have a problem with the prudishness that would have women covering up because it someone find a little bit of skin offensive though. I find the attitude just a little too puritan for my liking.

And puritanism over someone else sexual expression has killed a lot more people over the centuries than a bikini ever will.
sorry. I just don't find a woman's body offensive. And the idea that people are sexual beings who take notice of such things is not all that offensive to me either.
That is one of the greatest joys of life.

Let the kids have a little fun while they still can. Soon enough the will all be old and wrinkled anyways.
(Not that there is anythig wrong with that either. Truth be told it is a bit of a relief from the overwhelming effects that hormones tend to have on one's youthful existence).

Moral relativism, maybe.
But I do find prudishness, and puritanism to be the greater evil in this case.

I am with you, you did the right thing.

I find myself being offended by ads and gimmicks centered around the concept of sexual attraction and promiscuity. Like they will over-ride good sense or my sense of morality/values.

I am also outraged by sexual enhancement drugs being advertised on public and private TV. No one has any business advertising sex on public venues.

I want to say something really mean about why your husband stopped and married you... but you are so nice to me and my conscience would catch up to me.

While prudishness has certainly become a derogatory term it is from the same root as prudence with a source in the definition of "wise". Prudence is also known as a gift of the Holy Spirit.

Not seeing the evilness of it myself, especially coming from men who do not desire to fall into the sin of lust. I consider them prudent and blessed by the Holy Spirit.

It is wrong using that type of enticement to sell a hot dog or anything else for that matter. I don't even like going to the beach anymore because of the scantily clad women that are in my view. All the beach is anymore is a playground for the devil. So, to answer your question, NO, I would not buy a hot dog from that stand.
