Can we have one here for entry into MJ section?
LOL, that's good.

There are at least three on a Beit Din. They are usually Rabbis. At least one MUST be a Rabbi. We do have RebbeCohen here in the forum.

However, they decide issues of law/halakhah. I don't think entry into the MJ section would qualify -- that is the sole territory of the mods and administration. Could be that whether a person is "orthodox messianic" aka observant might fall under that rabbinical jurisdiction, but I don't know. :help: I'd have to ask a rabbi, LOL. :D

LOL!!! :D I'll be Judas.
Cute :D

Admit it, vis, you were thinking along these lines. ;)

On a serious note, why would a "Paul" be a part of the 12? He wasn't in the original Christian Apostleship.
Why does anyone think the 12 were a beit din???

Are you sure you guys know what a beit din is? They rule on issues of law/halakha.

Do you want their decisions to be advisory only? Or would you want the mods to enforce it?

to have a beit din you would need to elect a group of Rabbis and other learned men. they need to elect a chief rabbi.

the beit din has no real power or authority, they can only advise. the mods would have to enforce the rulings of the council.

what issues do you want the beit din to hear and in what capacity? how much power do you want the mods to give to the council?

i look forward to a reply and would be happy to serve

RebbeCohen,
I know this is a little offtopic, but might I ask you a question? What is the meaning of the word "Rebbe" within the Messianic context?

Because in traditional Judaism, this is a term usually associated with the leaders of the Chassidic movements. A Rebbe, to a chassid, would be a "rav d'rav". Is it the same in Messianic Judaism?

Dank!

Rebbe is the yiddish for Rabbi.

a beit din should be at least three and up to maybe seven. three or five is a good number. more would be only good if it is a truly serious matter.

the make up is at least one rabbi and one or more learned and respected men of good character.

Now that is an interesting thought for sure.

I wish we had one here. We like so need one in our community of congregations.

Wish we had an 'Ask the Rabbi section' The on line Rabbis don't usually respond for this observant christian.

Besides conversion, what sort of things does the Beit Din usually rule on?
Do they settle family disputes?
Do they disapline errant members?
Do they decide what action will be taken against a person who continues in unlawful behavior?

A council, not mod, but purely MJ who function as a council regarding the standard to be upheld by the posters in this area of the forum as representative of MJ.

We need people like Charles, who can represent the Paul's, Wags, who can represent the James, Zayit, as Matthew, Stone, who can be our Peter, and Tishri who can be our John, Yod our Simon, and I would love to see MattyJames back here and he can be Mark, I will be Luke [it is the doc in me]..etc... up to twelve members.
the beit din predates the apostles by millenia. it also has nothing to do with the apostles.

May I ask, what would you call the council in Jerusalem headed by James( example in Acts 15)?
The Council of Yerushalyim would be a synod or ecumenical council, not a beit din. It was a gathering of all the apostles and bishops. It was the example after which future synods and ecumenical councils were modeled.

To me and others here we consider this to be the "Beit Din of the Way" A sect f the Jews. To say it is something less is to make it Christian! And it was clearly making halakah for the members coming into the Way!

Is this group "the Way" synonymous with "Messianic"? And do I understand you to say that "the Way" and/or Messianics are not Christian? I guess I'm just a little confused here. :sorry:

Thank you Visionary, it was and is a sect of the Jews, with no Greco-Roman influence, but in every way Jewish except it was following the one that said "I am the way."
Ergo, nowadays Messianic Jews/Judaism.
IMO Christians are Westerners who accept Jesus Christ and change him into a Christian with all the trappings of the movement.
I ask what do Christians have that would fulfill the notion that someone will make the Jews jealous?
I haven't a clue!

Could it be Christmas, the bunny that delivers colored eggs, or their Day in the Sun? I don't know.
OH! maybe it's the Lobster! LOL

Hey Tal,

"The Way" is what the MJ's called themselves in the NT a couple of times. Some say it was a symbollic meaning and not a literal name of their sect (as they were already called the Netzarim). There has not existed a sect called "The Way" since, but many who are distrought with the MJ movement and feel they need a special category have recently begun using the term again. To my knowledge, there isn't a major movement to be labelled The Way yet, but a few messies w/o homes have preferred this term to Messianic Judaism.

fyi,
