As I was working to find funding for various families that wanted to go to our Adventist school, I went to discuss the situation with a true christian, with many years of experience and true wisdom. And he told me a very interesting thing, that Adventist education should be made available to all parents who desired their children to have it, regardless of race, religion or "ability to pay".......

I was in a bit of shock when it dawned on me what he was telling me, but as I mulled it over the last few days, I think it is the right direction....

What is everyones thoughts on this and does anyone have any experiance with education or its administration that can shed some light on this?

I know of an SDA church and school that believe in an Adventist education that all the church members kids can go to school for practically nothing.

The church pays pretty much everything except for a "registration" fee of about $40-50 a month. The Lord must really be blessing them.

Then again does that mean Adventist hospitals should be free for Adventists and not dependant on ability to pay? Being treated for an illness is as important as getting an education....

My point was that this particular Adventist church believed so much in Adventist education that this is the plan that they put in place. I think it is great !!

I think that's pretty standard. All the churches I've been a part of over the years have supported those who can't pay & God has always blessed that. Our schools are not there to make money, but to train our youth. Many teachers don't even receive a salary.

Most SDA teachers make great sacrifices! I admire them very much.

No they are not there to make money but the fact we cannot pay some of our teachers if what you say is true is not something for us to be proud of.

Oh, if it was just as simple as that.......

For getting into Academy for one child is over $17,000 and I am going over every grant, voucher, worthy student fund, goodwill offering, etc.... to see how to get them into Academy as well as our church school.

Red,

I know what you mean - I put my kids through elementary school and academy. It can be very expensive, but I think it is worth the sacrifice.

I went to our schools and now I work in our schools. They were set up to teach our children to work for others. The people who work in our schools see it as a mission field.
Our schools were intended to train young people to help lead others to Christ - missionary outreach whether at home or aboard.

i put my daughter in the adventist run "private" school she said the kids there were more judgemental than kids in public access school system. I feel as adults we take for granted if we just put our kids somewhere they will Fix them for us making them good little adventists but it can also isolate children and could make some self righteous and considering the status of the parents this can weigh heavy on the caste system put in place. I think this hyarchy happens also at churches everywhere its not how you worship its who you know and your financial status which in reality is more true than we care to admit. It is quite embarassing how adults can be just be as bad or worse than a bunch of school kiddies who dont know better fighting over whos shoes are newer. Oh I pray for JESUS's return Come on LORD we ?NEED you badly!

I would have to ask, but my understanding is Adventist hospitals are a completely seperate entity from Adventist church and goverment regulated so they run by another set of rules.

It is important because it allows them to have Christian freinds/etc. There are christian's at public school, however, so this isn't such a big deal.

Currently I want to have Christian freinds and date a Christian girl, and it is hard to find groups (of young adventists at least) outside of college. I would like freinds (And dates with) Christian's of other denominations also, but at least for me I don't know how to get into any such groups.

Note that private (Christian or otherwise) education can be very important when young to help keep the child away from bad influences (although some Christian/adventist schools have problems with drugs/sex also, at least I dont' think gangs are generalyl a problem).

If academics or advancement is your focus, then you would be stupid to go to an SDA college/university as ours are for the most part just not up to par. Much less any good. (We might have a decent medical university in Loma Linda, I don't know, we deffinitely don't have one in physics) The same is often true, but to a lesser extant, in the other Christian colleges.

In Christian colleges in general though there will be people who live religious lives, and people who don't, and there will be religious groups and 'fake' groups. And the same is true in public universities.

I haven't seen any sign that Christian education helps the person to have a deeper understanding of God or the Bible either. To have a deep understanding, it takes desire, and this doesn't get taught in the classroom. Additionally, sometimes brainwashing basically takes place in the classroom, which doesn't do the person any good if their beleifs are really challenged.

I guess I don't think that Christian education is right for everyone. I think it can be a blessing, but is often done poorly. I think that some adventists put way too much of an emphasis on it.

I have a few points to make as I am on the school board and have seen first hand some of these issues.

Adventist, depending on the family values, want their children to have good moral characters, and a school that teaches that is important to them. But you also have to have teachers with high standards and motivated to teach in spiritual matters and morals. It amazes me how these teachers become such a big part of these childrens lives and they become their mentors, their heros, their extended family... I have actually seen young children come up and hug their teachers during church or at pinics, completely away from any school functions. The love and bond they share with the kids is beyound anything I can describe.....

You might think that sending kids to a Adventist school is not such a big thing, but the alternative can be devastating.

In the public school right beside us some time back, the kids tried to set up a cache of bombs and weapons to kill their teachers and others that they didnt like....

http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2004/mar/03/ndn_authorities__lely_students_drew_on_columbine_f/

So if you want to say that their is no difference, I tell you there is a 100% difference, and I see it every time I come into contact with the kids and their teachers....

Do you know of any public schools where the students bond with their teachers as well? I do. Many devoted teachers teach in those public schools.
