• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Um...if there is a classical forum, shouldn't there be one for each period of music?

Picky picky! ;)

The Classical forum deals with classical music, not Classical music.

Capital 'C' refers to the period of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, whereas lowercase refers to a very broad category of music.

If we're willing to settle for one or two posts in each subforum — then, sure.

There are at least this many periods in Western music:

Early Greek
Late Greek
Roman
Early Medieval
Ars Antiqua
Ars Nova
Burgundian
Renaissance (Italy, France, England, Germany)
Renaissance subset: Reformation/Counter-Reformation
Renaissance subset: Venetian
Baroque
Rococo

20th Century
20th Century Contemporary

Hey: I think we should have subforums for Clementi, Dussek, Hummel and Weber.

Clementi wrote a lot of really good sonatas AND the Gradus ad Parnassum.

Dussek wrote 50 piano sonatas, some of which are masterpieces (unknown masterpieces, but masterpieces nonetheless!).

Clementi, Dussek, Hummel and Weber!
Clementi, Dussek, Hummel and Weber!
Clementi, Dussek, Hummel and Weber!
Clementi, Dussek, Hummel and Weber!

(the din coming from the growing crowd outside the balcony begins to raise fear in the Mozart/Haydn/Beethoven purists in the upstairs parlor...) ;)

I was just delighted to find a music forum here that wasn't CCM and some intelligent and experienced people (both performers and listeners). However, it would be nice to have the necessary differentiation that this music deserves, rather than being lumped into the usual bin as "CLASSICAL."

That's what I think. We could go on forever about some of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and John Williams...and they're all in their own respective periods. I'm sure that will get 10 posts...at least.:p
