oh no kidding- I'm anxiously waiting for the second one in the third set to come out.I love Cherryh's "Foreigner" series. Those are some of the best-described non-human motiviations/instincts/social mores/ I've ever read. And the hijinks that ensue as a result of the inevitable human/non-human motivation misunderstandings make for a great read.
OOH! Same here. Especial Grandma!oh no kidding- I'm anxiously waiting for the second one in the third set to come out.
My fave characters are Banichi and tAbini's grandmother.
It was interesting reading about some aspects of ancient japan, apparently there seem to be a few similarities so I wonder if CJ cherryh got some of her inspiration for the ateva race and culture from ancient japan.
quite so, as well as how much difference can be made because of biological reasons vs culture reasons.OOH! Same here. Especial Grandma!
I was struck by the similarities to even the similarities to Medieval Japan. The question the novel continually raised was: Just how much "quicker" are nature-born impulses than nuture-born ones? Looks like a photo-finish to me.

No kidding. Ya I think it's mostly cultural... but the biological aspect makes you think tho.Whoa...farm out!
Yeah...there's more to nurture than culture, though they're interrelated. Not sure if there's more to nature than biology...will have to ponder that.
Banichi is a perfect example. He's a product of his culture, but he thinks outside the cultural AND biological norms because of his Grandmother's nurture/influence.
Whoa...come up for air once in a while! Season One was a hoot.
That's sweet! We have a special breakfast on Valentine's morning, and we usually go out for dinner.
