We've got elephant sized faults here at STR but there is so much i love about it. I love the people i've met, the things i've learnt, the discussions we've had, the opinions of mine you've changed. I am on the road to Priesthood at the moment and i know for a fact that if it wasn't for CF then i definitely wouldn't be. I often come away from here so angry and for a variety of different reasons. Ultimately though i owe a tremendous debt to this forum.

This post has been partly inspired by the recent discussion to add a few subforums to STR. I have found the passion regarding these changes totally fascinating. Obviously i have my own views about what is being proposed but this isn't the place for that. There are so many of us here that are fighting so bitterely for what is in essence a few kilobytes in an internet forum. Like me, i think there are quite a few for whom this forum has become more then just to make a few comments. Many of my friends say that i'm quite 'sad' to post here, and that is partly true. However i have just started to being to realise how much every single poster here means to me. This is an amazing place to be.

We bicker so much, but for this one thread let's share one thing love about being here. We all it so much that we want it to be the best it can be. Why do we love this tiny, insignificant corner of the internet so much?

Tom, I can certainly sympathise with your perspective.

One thing I have worked out is that the longer one stays at STR the more gracious one becomes towards others of differing points of view. Not that we change our minds much, but rather we just learn to live and let live a little more. The good news is that this carries over into the "real" world too.

We can bicker over the tiniest things, but at the end of the day we still get along pretty well.

Yes, it is kinda sad to be on an internet forum- to the outsider. Those of us here I think can honestly say that this is no loser's pastime. You can learn, you can make acquiantances, you can help others on their walk and if you balance it right you will still have a life away from the screen.

Good words Tom.

I love the fact that y'all let me hang around in here, asking dumb questions, and you haven't kicked me out . . . . . . . . yet. :)

Mary
If we kicked out everybody who asked dumb questions this would be a very quiet place indeed.

:amen: (STR is also a good place to hide out from my Reformed and Presbyterian brethren ;) )

You know, I am really indebted to STR and all of you, who have taught me so much about Anglicanism. Whenever I mention this forum to my fellow ordinands, I get a mixed response that ranges from those thinking it is 'sad', to those who are curiously and wonderously amazed about it (but won't take my advice in coming along to participate).

Although occasionally I wonder whether my time is being spent in good stewardship here in STR, most of the time I am just so grateful for what I have learned from all of you. And that is confirmed when in discussion with my fellow ordinands - many of them do not have more than the slightest idea of what is going on in the wider Anglican realm beyond the Church of England.

When we think of how long some of us have been members of STR, it is kind of scary :o !

But I don't regret a minute of it! :)

I agree with you, Tom, in that I have been pleasantly surprised at how passionate I can become with the topics discussed here, and yet in the end come out with respect for people on all sides of an issue. I think that this place is representative of what the Anglican community could really be, if we strove for it in our churches as much as we do here at STR. I think all of us are likely to travel in circles of relatively homogenous, like-minded people, but here we interact with those who often have very different views than our own. Having to explain why I believe what I believe is quite a learning experience, but the kinds of questions I get about my perspective also tell me about where others here are coming from.

In short, we get to know each other's beliefs far more in-depth than I think I ever got to know my fellow parishioner's feelings. Which is kinda sad, really. But, on the other hand, we have really created a community, which means we are a church here. We are gathered together in Jesus' name, regardless of our conflicting views on controversial topics. So God is here, in the midst of all the turmoil and the hurt and the joy and the fun. Fantastic.

STR has certainly provided me with a look at "the other side." As a liberal Episcopalian, it can be tempting to hang with friends who share my own viewpoints, where it seems safer.

However, as an Anglican, it's important that we honor all voices. I've been pleasantly surprised and blessed by the words of some folks here who may not share my outlook, but remain willing to be in fellowship with me.

Reasons for gratitude that STR is here!

Well said, Chalice. I was wondering, is anyone working on fixing your profile - we can't see anything of you except your username, the time, and your character.

Thanks for asking, Karen. Not sure how to go about fixing it. Do I need to contact a mod?

One thing I have noticed about STR..and it's just a gut level thing of mine; but it's this... It's not so important what all one knows here but how one flows with the discussions here. I love the way some posters "listen" before they post. Knee jerk reactions seem to be less here than I have seen on many forums, and that is part of a learning process here I deeply appreciate.

It's like in the film..To Kill a Mockingbird...when the father tells the little girl that you can't understand someone else unless you stand on their front porch in their mocassins. (at least for a while, anyway) ;)

Fron what I understand (there was a thread in CR specifically about your problem) it is a result of some database problems that are occuring. A number of functions have also been affected. I assure you Chalice once these are online if your problem hasn't been fixed i'll contact support on your behalf.
