My cousin and I have been talking about taking a week and visiting a monastery but we aren't sure where would be the best one to visit. Proximity isn't the primary concern but then more than 500-750 miles would probably be too far.

We live in Tupelo, MS and would likely have a group of 5 or more men, depending on how it worked out. What are some good choices that are accustomed to visitors? Thanks.

Forgive me.

Here is one in the mountains of western NC. I cannot vouch one way or another, but I do know that it is in a beautiful rural setting and I am quite familiar with the location.

If you decide to head to NC, please get in touch.

That looks like such a beautiful monastery, Clement! Looking at pictures of monks makes me sometimes long for the days I was preparing to enter a monastery.

This might be a little too far but is also a good choice if you are looking for an English speaking monastery.

There is also one in Resaca Ga, I've heard good things about them, and I have also heard they have tended to jump jurisdictions. Anyone been there ?
Here is the website....again, disclaimer: I know nothing of this place...just posting info.

Oblio,

I went to this monastery for a day this past summer. It is small with only four monks, but it is also in a very nice setting. However, when I returned home I was told that Archbishop Dmitri has forbidden those in his diocese to go there. I think this has something to do with the jurisdictional hopping.

BTW, we had 67 at the concert this weekend. Not bad for a lowly band of 10 Orthodox Christians. We were pleasantly surprised by the the turnout and count it as a blessing from God. Thanks for making us aware of the quartet's tour.
