"To Our Lady"

I found this last year at a retreat and I keep it sitting in my room next to my computer I hope you all enjoy it (I'm sure some of you have heard this poem before!)

"To Our Lady"

Lovely Lady dressed in blue --
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little Boy,
Tell me what to say!

Did you lift Him up, sometimes,
Gently, on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way,
Mother does to me?

Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you ever try
Telling stories of teh world?
O! And did He cry?

Do you really think He cares
If I tell Him things --
Little things that happen? And
Do the Angel's wings,

Make a noise? And can He hear
Me if I speak low?
Does He understand me now?
Tell me -- for you know.

And Carrye, that's one of my favorite Christmas songs (although I never hear it used in Catholic churches...I stumbled upon it on the radio [I listen to the Christian station hehe]).

I think I heard it at one Mass . . . but I heard it first on the radio.

The reason that I never liked this song is this line:

This child that you've delivered,
will soon deliver you.

It's dogmatically incorrect. Jesus delivered her at the moment of her conception.

That struck me when I first read it, too. Rest of the song is beautiful though.

I like the "did you know?" lines because Mary seemed to accept A LOT on faith, she didn't understand everything. She seemed to "ponder" a lot of things "in her heart." Share thoughts please

And I agree Carrye has a lovely singing voice

Thanks for posting that...it's probably one of my favorite Marian poems. It's probably one of the easiest ways (for me at least) to understand Mary's role in our lives.
