Why Worship, I Don't Get It?

By Theadorus · Jul 31, 2017 ·
  1. Worship

Today, I’m going to be sharing something cool God revealed to me a couple months back. So how this came about was that one day I was cleaning around the house and I was just thinking about Worship. And I had this image in my head about the people back in the old days, like back in the B/C days, and how a lot of them would be on their hands and knees either in front of these Idols or whatever they were in front of, bowing up and down going, “ooooh, we worship you, oooooh, we worship you.” And so as I was thinking about that I then started to think about modern day worship, and how we worship God today. But with the image of the B/C worshipers still stuck on my mind I decided to ask God, “Okay, God, why worship?”

Now, I know this is going to sound terrible, but I really couldn’t see what the point of it was, or what He really got out of it (Because of that I really didn't do it often). And so I continued on by saying, “Why? I just don’t get it.” And then God responded back with something really interesting, and what he told me was that Worship is basically you loving on God, and God loving on you back (pouring your heart and love out for him). And then when it comes to praise, all that boils down to is just you thanking God for being awesome; thanking him for everything he has done for you.

So after hearing that I thought it was really cool because I never really thought of it like that. I mean, when it came to my idea of praise and worship, I just thought of it as a bunch of church goers standing around, clapping their hands, stomping their feet, shouting out to the Lord and that was it. I never gave any real thought to what I was doing; I was just going with the motions and doing what I thought was religious. So after God told me that, the first thing that happened was that I felt bad. Lol, not because God was making me feel bad, but because I now realized that after all of these years of praising and worshiping that I was doing it with the wrong heart and the wrong attitude. Real talk: I was only doing it because it was what I was taught/told to do. So I apologized to God, and now I’m doing it right :)

So what I got from this is that it all comes down to our attitudes. Are we doing it because it is what we do before a church service, or are we really taking the time to give thanks, and love on God? Because the painful truth is that God can do without a lot of our praise and worshiping. I mean, if you are not doing with the right attitude, or with the right heart, all you are really doing is just wasting your time (it profits you nothing); but more importantly, it doesn't bless God. Truth be told, God isn’t interested in hearing the next Billboards Hot 100 Christian songs, but what He is really interested in is you. And your heart. And your genuine love. He just wants to spend quality time with you.

And that’s it; a truth so simple, but for some reason I couldn't get it until now (well, a couple months ago). Thank you Jesus for revealing this truth to me, and opening up my eyes to this, and so I wanted to share this with you guy, and I hope this blessed you as much as it blessed me. So thank you guys for taking the time to check out this post, and have a blessed day.
