Not surprisingly, on many occasions I have been asked why natural man, and in many cases churchgoers, are so spiritually ignorant when it comes to even the simplest truths concerning the kingdom of heaven. Fortunately, the scriptures offer a great deal of information to explain why this is true. The short answer is that those who are not spiritually reborn and do not have the Spirit of God to guide and teach them will never understand these truths. They usually try to understand spiritual truths based on some theological answer that is typically handed down from seminary logic and becomes a point of philosophical argument with others who have differing points of view. This is the fabric of today’s local church doctrines and practices. Regrettably, this is why there are so many different teachings out there to confuse and divide today’s churchgoers. However, for those who are following Christ, and not some church, doctrine, denomination, pastor, etc., everything becomes clear as we lean on the Holy Spirit for our understanding of spiritual matters.
Therefore, believe it or not, God finds pleasure in the seemingly foolishness and simplicity of the gospel He has given to mankind. “For since in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not know Him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.” 1 Corinthians 1:21 Again, the scriptures address the foolishness of the gospel, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.” 1 Corinthians 1:25 Therefore, “The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. “For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:14-16
Consequently, the world does not understand the truths of God because their hearts are closed off from them. “The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.” John 14:17 Mankind’s wisdom, to include most man-made doctrines floating around out there, are influenced by Satan. “Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.” James 3:15 Furthermore, this wisdom if found in the teachings followed by the many churchgoers who have become blinded from the truth as they argue and divide themselves from one another. “These are the ones who cause divisions, who are worldly and devoid of the Spirit.” Jude 1:19 The Apostle Paul wrote to those in Corinth for the same reasons, because they were spiritually immature and puffed up with head knowledge without spiritual growth. “Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual, but as worldly--as infants in Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:1 “For everyone who lives on milk is still an infant, inexperienced in the message of righteousness.” Hebrews 5:13 Thus, it is time to walk away from these false teachings of man and open your hearts to the truths of heaven that can only come from the Holy Spirit! “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed about by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching and by the clever cunning of men in their deceitful scheming.” Ephesians 4:14
