Who do I want to follow me, and how, and why?
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 11:1 "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ."
Imagine if you were to be always doubtful, always complaining, always defeated, always expressing the evil thoughts you have, or maybe not always (but to throw people off the obvious tract that you really are not one to be followed by those seeking to follow God), just "generally" this way. They say that "Likes attract." So who would you want to be following you, but those that are also doubtful, not grounded in the Word; those that have a lot of grievances and complaints; those that are either unsaved still or babes in Christ who are still living defeated lives (and the Devil wants to keep it that way); those that have trouble with evil thoughts and are seeking the understanding and acceptance of those that are like them.
Paul wanted people to follow him as he was following Christ. Paul wanted to set a good example (not a poor defeated one), so he says in 1Co 9:27 "I keep under my body (I exercise self control over my body) and bring it into subjection; lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway (rejected as a spiritual leader). As I think of Romans 6:11-14 (which I hope you will now read), I think the following could have been said of the apostle Paul: "A good spiritual leader should be one that knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." If we are going to be writing a lot of blogs for Christians to read... it would behoove us to be someone that knows the way (well), goes the way (lives a victorious Christian life), and shows the way (shares the verses and passages in the Word of God that tell how to live this victorious Christian life), otherwise we are "feeding" the spiritually weak with that which will only make them weaker.
