Where Do We Get Strength?

What is My Strength?

When you are feeling overwhelmed (Isa 59:19; 63:9; Ps 30:11) or without strength, it is good to have a number of Bible verses memorized for a time such as that. Just go over them in your head and ask the Lord to speak to you, and strengthen you through meditating upon what they say He can do for you. Some people look for strength out of a bottle or pill. Others look for strength from “self help” books, or from other people. Some look for strength from certain foods or exercise. As you read the following, see that what is underlined shows that it is the Lord that gives us the kind of strength we really need. Our focus is to be on Him. You can also imagine how weak the rest of these words would be if what is underlined were removed or replaced by what the world looks to for their strength.

Ps 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” Hab 3:19.

Is 40:29,31 “He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.”

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

“But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” Ac 1:8

Phi 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

“The God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people.” Ps 68:35

Eph 3:16 “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;”

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, than am I strong.” 2Co 12:9,10.
