When You Are Afraid Of Your Father's House(6) - Built On Revelation

We had an interesting time studying the word of God as a family over the past three months of lockdown that the covid19 crisis has imposed upon the world. From a spiritual point of view, this has been the best time of our lives as a family! It has been three months of the spiritual intensity of which the normal day to day hassles won't have allowed, but here we are lockdown with God, enjoying his presence and also feeding on his word, it has been an everyday church, it was Holy Ghost centric!

And what we did through this period was to focus on the word and not the world! We have been building our roots in the word so we can bear fruit in the world. For as you will see from scriptures until the word takes root in our heart it cannot bear fruit on the earth! And this is presently the challenge of the church, we thought we had revelations but as opposition and temptation came we discovered that it's all on the surface, we are not deep-rooted!

During our Bible study time, a scripture caught my wife's attention in Mark 4:16-17

"And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended"

This verse brings up some memory of what happens in an average church, the word is preached, the saints are shouting: "preach it, pastor"! Some are so excited they jump, shout and scream. But hey the word was sown on a stony heart, the word has no root, and as soon as persecution comes to test the strength of the word then the believer, having no root, becomes offended by the word! The question my wife asked of this passage was what does the word offended mean in this passage. We look up the word from the original Greek translation and discovered it means the following: entrapment, to stumble, to entice to sin, to wither off, to fall into apostasy! Meaning when persecution comes to test the strength of the word those who have no root in themselves stumbles, are entrap, entice into sin, wither away or fall into a state of apostasy!

This is unfolding before our eyes today, scriptures are been rewritten to accommodate our spiritual failings! A new interpretation of the word is been giving to cover up our spiritual limitations! Instead of us to accept the fact that we have not to build up the faith and the power to deal with the onslaught of the enemy that has come through the coronavirus crisis we are busy offering excuses, 'Jesus didn't ask us to lay hands on everyone….let us use wisdom, we can use gloves to lay hand…laying hands is not really a spiritual practice it's a Jewish custom….the church is not the building, we are the building, let's worship at home….' And on and on we went making excuses for our spiritual limitations!

Let's face issues headlong, we may sing Sinachi song, " am walking in power, am walking in a miracle, I live a life of favor I know who I am'. A great song with great lyrics but how true is this song expressed in our lives? Are you really walking in power? When was the last time you saw astounding miracles? Do you really know who you are? For if you know who you are you will know that your body has been bought with a price and therefore you should glorify God in your body and not sickness! If you know who you are you will not be afraid of any virus! If you know who you are you won't be among the ones advocating that we sit at home and asked that the churches remain closed while in the same breath every other aspect of the society is freely opened!

Truth is we don't know who we are that is why the devil is taking us for a ride! Psalm 82:5 lamented, "They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course". When the believers who are meant to be the light of the world don't know their place, the world will fall out of place, out of course!

The hour of temptation is also the hour of manifestation, the world's darkest hour ought to be the church finest hour! For when darkness covers the earth and gross darkness the people that is when the Lord will arise upon us and his glory will be seen on us! Alas in the world's greatest hour of need the church went amiss! And the saddest thing is some of us are yet to know what has just happened! The persecution that came was for the 'word sake', to see if we really have it, and the result is glaring: we don't have it! During the world's greatest hour of challenge, the church lost its identity, voice, and authority, save for a remnant who will not be corrupted, enticed into apostasy, and stumble at the persecution! But for their voices, the church would have lost all its credibility and authority! Because of this remnant the Lord is giving us a second chance which I believe when we see we give birth to a great awakening and revival just before the coming of the Lord!

I have long written blogs and articles where I have often asked and questioned why the Church of today is been built on motivations and not on revelations! And here is the result of a church that is built on motivations: she would fear what the world fears and runs at whatever is chasing them in the world. Only the church built on revelations can withstand persecution! Only the church that is deeply rooted in the word can withstand the onslaught from the world!
