When Things Go Sideways The Apple Falls

Jesus taught about the sower that sows the word, and those various soils where the word was sown.

The hard ground received the word with gladness but only endured for a while. But when persecution or affliction came they became offended because they had no root in themselves.

I got to thinking about that. The Bible says to have an established heart. And the Bible says that we are rooted and grounded in God's love.

Then I thought of an illustration of an apple sitting on a level plank of wood. Everything is fine. Until one end of the plank is sharply lifted up (things go sideways) and so the apple falls off.

Jesus also talks about the good soil that receives the word sown, and perseveres against tests and trials.

So the illustration is an apple is nailed into the wood, and things go sideways, the apple stays put. It's not moved by circumstances.

May our hearts be established in God's great love for us that no matter what, we are not moved and we do not fall.
