What Paul Prayed For: Godly Living

One of the most popular verses of scripture I learned while growing up is the powerful statement Paul made in 1Timothy 6:6, *But godliness with contentment is great gain*. This meant that there is profitability in true spirituality. Just before this verse of scripture, earlier in 1Timothy 4:8 Paul declared how the profits in bodily exercise compare little with the spiritual regimen of godly living. He said here, "For bodily exercise profiteth little: *but godliness is profitable unto all things*, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come".

In all godliness, there is profitability

For godliness will bring us into a deeper relationship with the Lord. For whoever must come to His holy temple must be with clean hands and a pure heart (Psalm 24:3-4).

Godliness also is the key to quick answer in prayers for our iniquity will separate us far from the father! Isaiah 59:1-2 tells us the reason why we are most times spiritually incommunicado with God, it is because we are unrepentantly ungodly in our walk with him. Been godly encompasses more than being holy, but you can't say you are godly if you are not holy!

Also, with godliness, we will work in greater anointing! Of Jesus, it was said he loves righteousness and hate iniquity, and therefore God anointed him with the oil of gladness above his fellows (Psalm 45:1-7). And that tells you that anointing is in level and ultimately what qualifies you for the higher anointing is: GODLINESS! Only at this level will God trust you with strange and great works to be wrought in your life and through your life, ministry, business or career.

But it seems the present church has lost her sense of value for godly living, no wonder at every point we seek to be like the world, think like the world, talk like the world and even our worship meetings are more 'worldly than godly'!

When Jesus gave the great commission its sole purpose is to make the world look like the church, that's why he said to 'make disciples of all nations'. Today the world has made disciples of the church! For example, and now this may sound a hard stance, but I see no reason why I want to attend a service that is headlined by a comedian! If there is any reason for me to laugh in the church it must be laughter in the Holy Spirit! The altar is not a place for laughing it's a place for transforming the lives of men. I love to laugh but I will rather do that elsewhere and not in the church! The real laughter is the one that comes because the lives of men have been transformed! (Psalm 126:1-6). It is the laughter that comes because our captivity has been turned! Now that is the laughter I want to see in the church!
