Jesus teaches that God has a plan to save mankind. Jesus himself is the crowning achievement in God’s enormously complex plan. Simply put, God loves his creation so much he sent his son to die so that we might live. Jesus was sent by God to save us.
“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” John 3:17 (NASB)
God created humans as eternal beings; however, way back in the book of Genesis (Genesis 2:17) the rules were broken and we were appointed a time to die. Jesus wants us to know he came to restore that benefit. Jesus teaches us that he is in fact, the path to salvation.
“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:18 (NASB)
Still, sin remains a problem for many people, and because of that sin, Jesus is ignored. Jesus illuminates sin. Jesus is the light that exposes sin.
“For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” John 3:20 (NASB)
On the other hand, those who wish to rid themselves of sin and be free indeed, seek out the light. Light keeps the bugs away. Jesus teaches us that the entrance into the kingdom of God is marked by light and truth.
“But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” John 3:21 (NASB)
Jesus teaches that we all have a choice to make between light and darkness. For many, selfish pride bolstered by the schemes of the devil make that decision difficult. There’s a battle going on in this world that we each must fight on our own. Jesus points the way. There is no coercion on the part of our Lord – He’s made the offer and it’s up to us to move toward the light.
