What Is The Fear Of God?

"There is the convergence of awe, reverence, adoration, honor, worship, confidence, thankfulness, love, and, yes, fear." ... Some translations of the Bible sometimes replace the word "fear" with "reverence." It can also mean fear of God's judgment. —Dr. Robert B. Strimple

Fear (Yir'ah) Hebrew (OT)

  • Fear, terror
  • Awesome or terrifying thing (object causing fear)
  • Fear (of God), respect, reverence, piety
Fear (Phobos) Greek
  • Fear, dread, terror
  • That which strikes terror
Fear Of The Lord (Reverence Or Awe)...
  • Which is fine as far as it goes...
  • Does this definition go far enough...
  • Since the terms reverence and awe imply a place for "trembling," do most make the connection?
