When life deals blows to the heart or spirit, do you pick up and carry on with renewed strength? Are you proud to have overcome that hurdle, wearing that triumph as a personal badge of honour?
Seems to me God is more interested in our letting go of pride and humbling ourselves in order to be more receptive to Him, than in strengthening our own resolve and becoming even more determined to pursue self interest and goals regardless of cost to others.
The world wants to teach us to overcome, act prideful in ourselves and the system that owns us, all while pursuing our dreams. God on the other hand simply wants us to let go, humble ourselves and serve each other.
No wonder there is such conflict within Christianity, let alone the world, where the majority seek some form of status or self esteem in their daily lives rather than doing as God commands. What we end up with is people who use God to justify themselves rather than changing themselves to serve God.
