Unpardonable

The Unforgivable Sin

Matthew 12:24-25
“But the Pharisees, when they heard it, said, “This man does not expel demons except by Beelzebul the ruler of demons!” But knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.

Matthew 12:30-32
The one who is not with me is against me, and the one who does not gather with me scatters. For this reason I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven! And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him either in this age or in the coming one!

Mark 3:29-30
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit does not have forgiveness forever. but is guilty of an eternal sin”— because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Due to the eternal sin the religious Pharisees committed, Jesus Christ issued out a warning of a kind of sin that is unforgivable. It’s not until after Jesus’ death and resurrection that we see a physical example of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit: Acts 5:1-11

There seems to be 2 parts of this sin that are unforgivable against the Holy Spirit:
- Lying
- Saying to someone who has the Holy Spirit in them “he/she has an unclean spirit.”

These should be considered at all times before accusing someone (especially if you don’t know them) not having the Spirit in them. Take Jesus Christ for example. The religious Pharisees hated Him without a cause and more than likely tasted eternal death for the words they spoke against Him. These examples should cause us for alarm when talking to people. We should not ever be accusing as that is something God also hates. Satan is already named the Accuser, so we should never reflect him, but reflect Christ’s love instead. This is part of the reason why God wants us to lift up one another and not tear down.

There are many already in name only, so we should take heed to what the Word says and caution ourselves when we choose our words to speak. I also believe this is why God loves a quiet spirit (1 Peter:3-4) because it is not quick to speak in certain cases as our hearts can deceive us.
