Unction Is What Commands Attention

What defines the identity of God's kingdom on the earth is not words, but the power of God, "for the kingdom of God is not in words but in power"(1 Corinthians 4:20). Power not grammar is what defines the identity of the church and makes it command the attention of the world!

In Acts 1:14 we see a church confined to the upper room, praying and rendering their heart so that God can render the heavens and pour out His Spirit.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

And so it was that in the next chapter Acts 2:1-4 that God responded to their outcry with an outpouring from heaven. Suddenly the power of God fell and suddenly their status changed!

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:1-4 NIV

The confined ones became the assigned ones! They began to preach the word of God boldly for the salvation of men. And as they preach the word, the Holy Spirit moved the heart of men(vs37-41) and 3000 souls were added to the church! From 120 the church grew to over 3000, all in one day!

Something about the crowd is this: the crowd will always move in the direction of the latest attraction! And when you receive heavenly unction you become an earthly attraction! Psalm 45: 7-9 poetically talked about how unction commands attraction. How the fragrance of the anointing will command the attention of the "daughters of Tyres'.

Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad. Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him. And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat thy favour.

And in Luke 4, we saw the practical demonstration from the day 1 of Jesus ministry how unction commands attention!

In Luke 4:14-20, after he was anointed and he spoke everyone's eyes were fastened on him.

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Unction will always command attention!

And the key to the release of that unction is Prayer! The apostles knew this and so in Acts 2:42 the bible says: 'they continued steadfastly ...in prayers'.
