The Holy Spirit as Our Guide

The Holy Spirit guides us through our own consciences and in other subtle ways. He doesn't speak with audible words.

    Romans 9:1
    9
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

    Familiarity with God's Word
In order to recognize the Spirit’s guidance we discern between our own thoughts and His leading. One of the most important ways to recognize the Holy Spirit’s guidance is to be familiar with God’s Word. The Bible is the ultimate source of wisdom about how we should live. Believers are told search the Scriptures, meditate on them, and commit them to memory.

    2 Timothy 3:16
    16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    Ephesians 6:17
    17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The Word is the Sword of the Spirit
The Spirit will use Scripture we hold in our hearts to speak to us to reveal God’s will for our lives; He will also bring specific Scriptures to mind at times when we need them most.

    John 16:12-14
    12
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

    John 14:26
    26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Our Desire or from the Holy Spirit
Knowledge of God’s Word helps us in discerning if our desires come from the Holy Spirit. We must test our desires and inclinations against Scripture. The Holy Spirit will never encourage us to do anything contrary to God’s Holy Word. If our urges conflict with the Bible, then it is not from the Holy Spirit and should be ignored.

Experiencing the God of Joy: By centering our lives around Christ, we can experience true joy. "According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." —Philippians 1:21

    John 16:6-15 (KJV)

6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

What an extraordinary picture that exquisitely gets the precious message across. Yes, to know God is to know His precious Word. As it is written, that when we "call" to Him, that He will "answer". And "calling" to Him is "delving" into His Word. AS it sayys in Jeremiah 33:3, He WILL answer and show us mighty thing we have not seen before (This is His Holy Spirit "teaching" us through His Word). What a treasure it is.

Amen. There is no greater miracle than salvation and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit by which God takes up permanent residence in the body of a believer in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Praise ye the LORD.

I don't think I understand or agree with the title. A lot of people know God, and still don't know His Word much. Some know His Word pretty well, and still don't know God that much. I would think the emphasis should be on knowing the Word, and through obeying it get to know God. Thus the title is not always true. Sounds good, maybe, but if you think it through, is it really a good statement?
