While reading Num 4:21-49 this week I was struck how with two particular families each man from the ages of 30 to 50 years old was given a responsibility in the moving of the Tabernacle through the wilderness. There were the sons of the Gershonites and the sons of Merari.
When it was time to move the camp the Gershonites job was to carry curtains, wall hangings, coverings from around the doors and gates of the Tent of Meeting. They also gathered all the cords and instruments used in their service.
The sons of Merari were given the responsibility of carrying all the boards of the tabernacle, its poles, its pillars and sockets, all the pillars of the court, their pegs and their cords with all their instruments and with all their servings. That was their job....their burden.
It just struck me how each person had a job to do. It was not just left to the kindness of whoever wanted to do it or whoever was willing. It was commissioned by God. There was no arguing with Moses and Aaron. When the tent moved, all those commissioned, got to moving to do their service as given them by God and it all got moved safely and securely. Everyone did what they were given by God to do.
Each of us have something to do in the household of God. Do it with gusto.
Do it with all your ability. Do it in joy of service to God. Do it with thankfulness to Him for whatever the job is because that job is beneficial to someone, and God considers it as a service unto HIM.
