There’s so much of God that we can’t see or maybe understand even if we could see. Everything we know about God is what we read in the Bible. We then take those words and try to piece together our understanding of God. No matter how hard, or how long we struggle with our image of God, we will never come close to the full vision until that day we arrive in the kingdom of heaven.
“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” 1 Corinthians 13:11 (NIV)
God cannot be fully revealed in this world. We have a child-like view that falls well short of a complete encounter with God. We see nothing more than a reflected image of God as we attempt to decipher the Word of God into his perfect presence.
“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV)
In part, our child-like view of God is that which endears us to Him. Those who arrogantly proclaim to have special knowledge of God are perhaps the least likely to truly know Him. When we humble ourselves before God and are totally dependent on Him; we demonstrate our child-like faith that will carry us forward into eternity.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
As children of God, we obediently follow his directions until the day we are brought into His presence. What a glorious day that will be.
