The Most Important Day Of The Week For True Christians

  1. Questions: What is the most important day of the week when it comes to serving the kingdom of heaven?

Answer: Today! Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not a given; therefore, today is the only sure day we have to allow the Father to do His will in our lives as we serve His kingdom.

Be careful not to place one day over another while serving the kingdom. Matthew 12:1-12 illustrates a good example of this. One time on the Sabbath while walking through the grainfields Jesus’ disciples were hungry and began picking the heads of grain to eat. The religious minded people of that day confronted Jesus because His disciples were unlawfully doing this act on the Sabbath. Jesus wasted no time in correcting those seeking to judge Him as to the way we should live as followers of Christ. Again, Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath causing the religious people of that day to confront Him again asking, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” Jesus replied, “If one of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

For the true Christian, not the weekly churchgoer who remains conformed to this world, every day is an equal blessing and opportunity to serve the kingdom. It is ridiculous to believe Jesus would have placed a greater importance on one day above another for His Church. Manmade traditional religious practices would choose to differ, and not unlike the religious minded people who confronted Jesus would quickly judge the true Christian who places an equal value on each day. Therefore, if we wish to be like Christ we should serve the kingdom as He taught us to, daily!

You have a good writing style and you presented this topic. At one time I would have agreed without reservation. But there's something that bears seeing here. Let me give it a try.

The disciples were not being unlawful. Harvesting the field would have been unlawful. Eating lunch or snacking was not unlawful but was expressly allowed and encouraged in the law. Jesus was speaking against the way the Lawyers were trying to define righteousness by an outward appearance and stepping over what God intended.

From the Garden when the concept began to God's declaration of the 4th Commandment that He wrote with His own finger on a tablet of stone to a people who hadn't seen a day off in hundreds of years through the Exodus when the manna demonstrated how God was going to take care of them if they would just walk in His ways, the Sabbath remains a reminder that He loves us. Jesus pulled the disciples away from the work and met with them. Take My Yoke, He said, for I will give you rest. If His three days in the earth had not included two Sabbaths, the women would have accomplished the anointing of His dead body before He rose!

Today is the only day that matters while it is Today. Let us offer to the nations His good news that today is the day of salvation. As it happens, today is also a Sabbath. The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. May we labor to enter His rest, to serve Him acceptably accounting that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And let us also allow others to rest from as many of their usual chores as they can on the Sabbath so we can have that special time to be with Him and with each other. This wasn't man-made: this is how God set it up and it works when we obey Him. While there is a great spiritual concept and you are using words well to capture it, there is a down to earth application to the Sabbath that has not been revoked and would be a shame to miss. Thank you, Brother.
