Every good gift and every perfect gift comes from God. As believers, it is God that releases everything that comes into our lives. God is not releasing those gifts to us because of our human wills and efforts. This does not mean that we will become slothful and fatalistic. This is to let us realise that whatsoever 'good things' we receive, it is because the Lord released them. These also include those things that appear to be our legitimate rights, for instance our salaries. Though we work hard to earn our salaries, they are still gifts from God.
God's mercy endears us to Him and makes Him to release gifts into our lives.
Therefore, we do not have any basis to boast about anything. Rather we should be thankful for everything. Concerning every matter, we should plead for God's mercy. If we can obtain His mercy, everything else will fall in line.
