The gospel is about Jesus. In the Great Commission, He commanded us to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. Teaching them to observe all that He had commanded us.(Matthew 28:18-20).
Are you in the church and learning Jesus? Are you a preacher, are you preaching Jesus and Him crucified?
"It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God." (1 Corinthians 1:22-24 NLT)
Are you like the Jews in this text that are asking for signs from heaven? You will have missed the point if you are in the church because of signs and wonders. Jesus did not commissioned the church for the purpose of signs and wonders, these are superficial benefits of seeking Him. They naturally follow you as you follow Jesus.
Probably you are in the church to be fed with high sounding philosophical ideas, you will have also missed the main point as well. The church is about the person of Jesus and His principles. Human wisdom does not have a place in the church of God. In the church of Jesus Christ, we seek Jesus, who Himself, is God's wisdom. The church must not be distracted by the tendency of some of our leaders that want to appear wise to the world. Everything Jesus purchased for us on the Cross, were designed to confound the world.
Christ is both the power of God and the wisdom of God. Knowing more about Him will further expose us to more of the power and the wisdom of God.
While on earth, Jesus was born into the lineage of David. Is your lineage traceable in Christ? How did you become born again?
ACTION PLAN: Cease pursuing shadows, seek to know Christ and Him crucified.
PRAYER: Father, deliver me from every distraction of seeking signs and human wisdom in the church. Grant me grace to seek Jesus and Him crucified.
