The Feast Of Saint Patrick

Note: blog entry written in advance of feast day.

Well, it's St. Patrick's day and I'm not sure what we're going to do today apart from going out for a bit. We eat out, we may pick something up on the way back, either way, I intend to pay for it in order to set a good example for my secular parents, and encourage them to convert.

The fact that St. Patrick's day is so big in Anglo-America, really speaks to the historical ethnicity of Catholics in this part of the world, the Irish. I wonder how many Irish Catholics there are on CF, and out there in Anglo-America? The impression I get now is that the majority of Catholics out there in Anglo-America now are, (hope this isn't offensive to say) WASPs, former Protestants of Northern European descent, I'm not sure though I'll have to take a closer look into that sometime. (I've actually been meaning to look into demographics and statistics for awhile now, I was once arguing with an Atheist on a secular forum and he challenged me on the Church's teaching on contraception. I told him how contraception had absolutely devastated the Church and the World and his response was basically "prove it!" so I'm going to. Unfortunately college work, and certain psychological issues have sprung on me, so my Evangelization efforts on that secular site are on hold for the moment.)

I'm an Hispanic Catholic, on my dad's side a at least, I looked into my family's heritage back in November and discovered that I am part of diverse Mestizo family, it has inspired me to try and reclaim my culture. I plan on making the Feast of Saint James a big thing in my family, both the main Roman feast, (July 25) and the Hispanic feast (December 30) in honour of my culture, for it was St. James who converted the Spanish people.

Well that's all for now, I hope everyone has a happy St. Patrick's day. I leave you all now with the Breastplate of St. Patrick:

I bind unto myself today
the strong Name of the Trinity,
by invocation of the same,
the Three in One, and One in Three.

I bind this day to me for ever,
by power of faith, Christ's Incarnation;
his baptism in Jordan river;
his death on cross for my salvation;
his bursting from the spicèd tomb;
his riding up the heavenly way;
his coming at the day of doom:
I bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself the power
of the great love of cherubim;
the sweet "Well done" in judgment hour;
the service of the seraphim;
confessors' faith, apostles' word,
the patriarchs' prayers, the prophets' scrolls;
all good deeds done unto the Lord,
and purity of virgin souls.

I bind unto myself today
the virtues of the starlit heaven
the glorious sun's life-giving ray,
the whiteness of the moon at even,
the flashing of the lightning free,
the whirling wind's tempestuous shocks,
the stable earth, the deep salt sea,
around the old eternal rocks.

I bind unto myself today
the power of God to hold and lead,
his eye to watch, his might to stay,
his ear to hearken, to my need;
the wisdom of my God to teach,
his hand to guide, his shield to ward;
the word of God to give me speech,
his heavenly host to be my guard.

Christ be with me,
Christ within me,
Christ behind me,
Christ before me,
Christ beside me,
Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort
and restore me.
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ in quiet,
Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of
all that love me,
Christ in mouth of
friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself today
the strong Name of the Trinity,
by invocation of the same,
the Three in One, and One in Three.
Of whom all nature hath creation,
eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
praise to the Lord of my salvation,
salvation is of Christ the Lord.

Glory to God
and
Hail Mary!
and St. Patrick, pray for us!
