The War

The Prophet Joel foretells of this invasion by Russia and many other countries, against Israel. As they come down towards Israel from the north, they go through many villages destroying all in their path. Eventually they come to the mountains of Israel looking to invade God`s land and plunder it. (Joel 2: 6 - 9)

Joel graphically describes all the modern implements of a mechanised army in action. He depicts tanks, armoured carriers, guns, flame throwers and masses of planes.

`....like the morning clouds spread over the mountains, a people come, great and strong.....a fire devours before them...their appearance in like the appearance of horses; like swift steed, so they run.

With a noise like chariots over mountains they leap, like the noise of a flaming fire that devours the stubble, like strong people set in battle array.` (Joel 2: 2 - 5)

God`s Intervention

However, God will be `zealous for His land, and pity for His people.` (v. 18) He will remove the northern army far from them.

`I will remove far from you the northern army, and will drive him away into a barren and desolate land. With his face towards the eastern sea and his back towards the western sea; his stench will come up, and his foul odour will rise, because he has done monstrous things.` (Joel 2: 20)

God then invokes the elements in a series of judgmental catastrophes which completely annihilates the Russian Army.

`”And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that my fury will show in my face. For in my jealously and in the fire of my wrath I have spoken: .....

I will call for a sword against Gog throughout my mountains....every man`s sword will be against his brother.

And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire and brimstone.”` (Ez. 38: 18, 19, 21 & 22)

The world will stand amazed and in awe of this awesome event. God says -

`Thus I will magnify myself and sanctify myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.` (Ez. 38: 23)
