The Courage To Stick To Your Own Convictions

I believe we are all called to loneliness. Or maybe I mean alone-ness. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert. There was a part of him he couldn't share with the disciples. The most important relationship for Him was His Father. So the most important relationship for us is also the Father. We need alone time with Him.
Its easy for us to lose track of what is important in life. We can easily get caught up in reputation and be controlled by what we think others think of us. Sometimes our behaviour might seem aloof or weird to others. But is that weirdness because God is calling us away from the group, to stand alone? or disagree with the group?
The best example I can think of is Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird. He had the courage of his convictions to go against the flow and defend the accused who was very marginalised. That is so admirable. It must've been Jesus working though him. The gifts of the spirit, wisdom, courage and empathy.
I hope I can have the same courage when it is required. Not that I should take the credit as it will actually be God working through me.
